If you think it's a little Doors-esque, you're pretty right. Ray Manzarek on keyboards, even. This song would go well next to Genius in France.

Thanks a whole freakin' lot. I'll never hear the song the same way again.

Oh, they've found a way to make Stan Bush worse.

Most of the music on Rush's Chronicles. What's New Pussycat. Most of Gordon by the BNL. The more happy than sad songs on JoCo Looks Back. Dare to be Stupid. A significant part of Weird Al's catalogue, now that I think of it.

Baby Got Back, Kung Fu Fighting, Private Dancer, and Turning Japanese. Purely for Karaoke purposes.

There's probably more. And if you hum a few bars, I can probably fake it.

A) It sucks quite a bit that you cannot get either Hogfather or Colour of Magic from Amazon.ca OR Chapters. Sure, you can get it from Amazon.com, but they've started charging for duties EVEN THOUGH THEY SHIP FROM MISSISSAUGA.

B) Okay, yeah, we had fun at Trek. But the Fridge moment for that movie (which, admittedly, didn't hit me until Cynra & I were having Timmy's and donuts ten hours later) was a doozy.

We also took in a film from Hot Docs Ron Mann retrospective, which was about the Twist (the link is to an interview of Ron Mann by Peter Gzowski, which will mean nothing to 90% of you).

I really need to learn more about music history. Disco and R&B and, admittedly, Rock is all various types of enigmas for me.

Got this from MGK.com.

As well, I got a Dreamwidth membership. Remember how I mentioned that you could get an account with an OpenID? it turns out everyone who did that got an invite to the beta.

So, who else is giving Dreamwidth a try?

I don't recall where I saw this previously, but the Wax Cylinder Preservation Society looks pretty neat, if only to listen to century old comedy routines.

I updated the JoCo wiki for I'm a Mason Now (you can listen to the song Here) because it didn't mention that although the lead character mentions that he used to be a Shriner before he became a Mason, all Shriners are actually high level Masons. That's always driven me mad.

I think it would also make a nice song on Rock Band.

But I'll get the Killers Christmas single anyway.

This is, as far as I know, the third year in a row that they've released a Christmas special single. The first year was a fairly traditional Christmas tune called "A Great Big Sled", and last year was a strange Tarantino-esque tune called "Don't Shoot Me, Santa", about a Kris Kringle figure who brings more than coal for naughty children.

This year is the strange tune "Joseph, Better You Than Me", which features Neil Tennant and Elton John. It's an interesting tune so far.

I'm only a mild fan of The Killers, but I just remember an old roommate telling about being a member of the fanclub for the Fifth Dimension, and getting a Christmas single every year as part of the membership. That appeals to me, on a certain level.

[Poll #1317370]

Dammit, people, she's a member of the Order of Canada! That puts her right up there with Rush!

edit: Oh, I'm sorry. That's Dr. Col. Loreena McKennit, OC.

[livejournal.com profile] easyalchemy got this started by quoting the lyrics in a Facebook update, so I've had it nestled in my brain for the past couple days inbetween Christmas songs.

I got a copy of the Peanuts Christmas album, which remains a holiday delight. I suspect Guaraldi had an extra set of arms.

Also on FB, [livejournal.com profile] malliabu mentioned this collection of Christmas music done in the style of 8 bit Nintendo tunes. I'm not huge into electronic music in general, or 8 bit stuff specifically, but this is a very nice selection of music.

Add to that a Christmas album sent as a gift (electronically, sure, but sent) and it's a nice holiday season.

Beneath the cut, I've got the lyrics to Bonanza. Now, you have to remember, it was sung by Lorne Greene himself, so you must imagine this sung by OA (Original Adama) AKA The Voice of Doom.

Youtube.com has channels for (via Scorpio Music) Eartha Kitt and The Village People.

It's better than watching Can't Stop the Music.

Okay, that may not be the highest praise, but still.

Macho Man has only 8000 views, compared to 600K for YMCA and 192 for In the Navy. Criminal.

What are you whining about? This is the short version.

Is Myra Breckenrigdge a treasured piece of camp, or just something that is watched while drunk/high and mocked, relentlessly?

Feeling like crap, but going into work anyway because you have to, and then the iPhone playing "Calling in Sick" by Weird Al.

Thanks for reminding me, Al.

I coughed up things this morning. GREEN things. I think they may have wriggled.

So, I saw that the soundtrack for Repo: A Genetic Opera had been released on iTunes, so I picked it up on the weekend. It sounds nice, which got me eager to see the film.

I'm not going to be able to make it to see it at the After Dark Film Festival because I have a wedding that night. Well, I don't have a wedding, but someone else does and I'm going to it.

Anyway, I figured I'd just wait until it came out in theatres. Then I noticed that it isn't going to show in theatres (other than NYC, SF, LA & Vegas). Crap.

Ah, well. It'll be out in January on DVD, so that shouldn't be a problem. But still, theatrical shows are so much more entertaining.

In other disappointing news, Weird Al has a new single out today. I probably wasn't the first person to think this, but releasing singles on iTunes is a really good model for him to follow. It allows him to get parodies out while the songs he's doing are still fresh in people's minds. I don't think it's odd that a lot of his most memorable songs from recent albums have actually be parodies of classic rock tunes, considering the disposability of most modern pop songs.

Plus, I still have the sense of humour of a 12 year old.

It turns out, unfortunately, that the song is only available via iTunes in the US, although you can hear it on youtube.

It's annoying when you want to support an artist and the distribution system gets in the way. I know there are alternatives, but it's still frustrating.

I went to the library today and got a the CD for Graceland out of the library. Apparently it's an Enhanced CD, which means it has stuff on it. Apparently I need to install a 12 year old copy of Quicktime to see it.

Now, my current version doesn't seem to recognize it. Is it too old for me to see?

One of the interesting things that happened at FanExpo this weekend that did NOT make me want to kill myself or someone else was finding a strange little CD that someone had dropped on the ground.

It turned out to be part of Operation Disque Drop, which is apparently a grass roots effort to promote Alizee, a French pop singer.

The Blogspot site linked to has, oddly enough, [livejournal.com profile] bandersnitch’s fanvid, so I think I may need to start asking for royalties.

But it is a rap video, so possibly NSFW due to language.

What would Method say?

Probably a Raffi or Chipmunks album. Possibly something by Mr. Dressup. I know I had a Smurfs tape I'd listen to during long car rides. My uncle made me a copy of Bill Cosby: Himself that I listend to with a frequency that could possibly be described as "incessant".

The first album of somewhat serious content I recall buying was Paul Simon's Graceland album (feat. Ladysmith Black Mambazo) that I bought after they appeared on SNL in the '80s.

Still like it. Very enjoyable. Please don't shatter my illusions.

I eventually got a copy of Chronicles by Rush, which I've since re-bought in CD. And I think I've had 2112 in three different formats (tape, CD, Gold CD)*.
