So this week over at MGK.com he posted his regular (hey, this is four weeks now; that's regular) "Things I Liked This Week And Things I Didn't piece.

In it, he mentions this:
- President’s Choice makes passionfruit (and diet passionfruit) pop now? I sometimes think there is a little room at President’s Choice headquarters where there’s this one guy whose sole job is coming up with new flavors of pop. (I mean, it would explain the lychee soda they introduced last year.) But the passionfruit is easily their best entry since blackcurrant a couple of years ago (and why did they discontinue blackcurrant)?

Anyway, yesterday while shopping I picked up a bottle of the diet passionfruit pop. Very tasty. I strongly suspect the Lychee pop was made for cocktails.

And, as an interjection, I love the sound of the word passionfruit as spoken by someone with an Afrikaaner accent. I have no idea why. The pronounciation of the first syllable alone just makes me giggle.

Anyway: PC pops.

The post reminded me of a dark day for the PC brand. Back then, when the president was Dave Nicholl, they introduced a black cherry flavour of pop, which is delicious and probably explains why my belt size went up over the '90s.

They then introduced a variety called Chocolate Black Cherry, which combined PC Black Cherry with the taste of chocolate. It was sampled by a Global reporter visiting the PC Test kitchen, whose response was, well, what you'd expect from the description. To summarize: He d'int like it.

Now, this was on a Global tv program. It probably could have blown over if they'd ignored it. But Dave was apparently an easy man to anger. So Dave made that clip into part of his promotional plan. The commercials included the Global reporter gagging on his beverage, and daring consumers to try it themselves.

So, yeah, I tried it. And, oh lord, was it a betrayal of the prinicples of Black Cherry pop. Feh. It in fact sat in the fridge I shared with my roommates until they made me toss it out. And I hate tossing out food. It's been ingrained in me as one of the great sins. Even really, really bad food that is mostly sugar and carbonated water.

So, yeah, MGK, there's a lab of people whose sole purpose in life is brainstorming and creating pop flavours. Sometime it works. Sometime... it does not.

Lisa Raitt just can't get a break.

I should take her a few cupcakes from Flourgirls.

So today was the semi-annual Bayshore Hobbies Games Day Sale.

I got up at stupid early o'clock to head down to Hamilton to meet up with [personal profile] pyat and [personal profile] doc_mystery.

If you go to either of their blogs you can see oodles of pictures.

We grabbed breakfast at a Cora's after getting our unfortunately shaped badges and hit the sale.

We may have gotten a little silly as the day progressed.

My haul was pretty restrained. I got a dented copy of Traders & Barbarians for Settlers of Cataan, the Bullwinkle & Rocky Roleplaying Board Game, and a few books, including finally getting a copy of Buried Secrets for Wraith. Didn't have the ST screen, unfortunately, but I have the book now.

I also picked up Cops, Crews and Cabals for Champions and the Player's Guide to Fighers & Barbarians and Kithbook Eshu.

This afternoon has been yard wokr, and tonight is Dr. Horrible. I have NEWS.

Which gives everyone plenty of time to make me this.

I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] jreynolds would like one too.

So the weekend was interesting. Cynra & I took our rides in to get the seasonal tire switching done, which was helpful. We went for breakfast with [livejournal.com profile] atomiks; he gave us a ride down to the breakfast place, since our cars were in the shop.

I had planned to attend the Fan Appreciation event at the MTCC, but since I didn't know if the merchant I needed to visit to get my two Sinestro Corps HC figs I wanted was going to be there, it seemed too much of a trip for a Bill Sienkiewicz autograph.

We did go downtown to catch Fanboys with [livejournal.com profile] kinra. The film was not nearly as bad as many people say. I'm not gonna go so far as to say it was great, but it didn't suck. I'm just glad it made it to theatres in one piece, eventually.

We met up with Uday for dinner was at Salad King, where I returned from a visit to the loo just in time to keep [livejournal.com profile] kinra and Cynra from coming to blows over the BSG finale.

We went to Uday's spacious pad at College & Yonge (Space not included) before heading home, where we discovered that Cynra had lost her cell phone along the way, which sucks. I put a block on the account, and have called the theater and the dinner venue to no success. Ah, well, she's had it for exactly Three years so I guess it's paid for now.

Sunday was quieter, due in no small part to the fact I had a headache that felt like someone had slammed a spike through my right eye into my brain. I powered through it to do some shopping, but then came home and laid on the bed weeping until around seven. Sucky. I'd hoped to do some gardening (seed planting in seed starting medium, at least) but ended up just spending the day in a pissy mood. The bouncing midgets getting eliminated from TAR helped not at all.

Well, Monday, as a normal human being. My favourite day is Thursday, as it is A) Gaming Night, B) Roti Night, and C) The day furthest from Monday.

So, yeah. In case I haven't mentioned it here, I broke my lasagna cooking cherry this past weekend. Had a fascinating discussion with [livejournal.com profile] mr_weasel about the cost efficiencies of Fresh Vs Store-bought frozen (you spend a little more buying the ingredients, but the cooking time is reduced). It's a foolishly easy dish to make, as long as you're not making your own sauce. And even then, well, we've got tomato sauce made from our garden sitting in the pantry

The recipe I used required ricotta or cottage cheese in the middle, mixed with defrosted frozen spinach. Now, personally, spinach is a take it or leave it proposition for me (I often pass it by when using a salad bar, to my shame).

The spinach in this dish, though, is not making itself loved to me. I don't know if it's because I defrosted it the easy way (microwave) instead of letting time and nature take its course. The flavour is just strange, and it has an odd, tough texture that I'm not loving.

Meh. It was a casserole dish of pure gold that came out of the oven, in any case.

Holidays are well planned this year, somewhat. I've got a few rollowers from last year that I got because my Christmas vacation got turned into a bereavement period, and I've got march break off (Hey, Ottawans! I'm coming for YOU!). I've got the two days prior to FanExpo off, and I've taken the Monday afterwards, too, so I can just relax. Maybe we'll stay for dinner after show and stay at the hotel an extra night.

I'm still trying to arange for the other few days of the year, and hoping I'll get holidays (Thanksgiving and Victoria day and Canada Day and all the other great holidays they don't celebrate in the Holy Republic).

I may just apply to get the Friday of Toronto Trek off. And maybe the Monday.

Five Questions below here. )

Sometimes I will go get a burrito after going to a comic shop if Cynra is busy on a wednesday night. Otherwise, very rarely.

Isn't that a picture of California they show when they say Florida?

[livejournal.com profile] umario has been studying in Sweden. He has developed an affection for Swedish food in tubes.

Beneath this cut: food in tubes )

Posted via LiveJournal.app.

At ACB, and I'm working on not killing [livejournal.com profile] umario.

Turkey is cooking, and the DL for the Christmas Special is annoyingly slow.

Have finally found A Blackadder Christmas Carol on the dvd set, and I will now go watch it. They keep it very well hidden.

There are a disturbingly high amount of foods from Sweden that come in tubes. Disturbingly high. I mean, cheese with smoked reindeer? Who wants to squeeze that out of a tube?

Swedes, that's who.

They also have a variety of candies that are strange, plus a Christmas themed soda pop that is not an adequate replacement for Holiday Spice Pepsi.

On the plus side: Aquavit. If I'm not fond of it, I can use it to disinfect things.

Cynra got me Rock Band 2, and I got her Lips, so that'll be fun. I wonder if the microphones are compatible?

Quiet day, in all. Happy Xmas.

Went to Word on the Street w/ Cynra. She went library shopping using the proceeds from her Scholastic book sale this week. I, personally, suggested a couple Sumo chairs for the library, but no go.

I had to split early, leaving Cynra with [livejournal.com profile] redeem147. Sunny & I drove up to Pixelbarrel world HQ to help film an ELoE application video (mine, apparently).

Afterwards, I picked up Cynra, [livejournal.com profile] redeem147, and little brother Uday and we headed to Pizza Pide for some traditional Turkish pizza. Good stuff.

Oh, yeah: game got back into session this past Thursday. The group's meetings are a bit abbreviated for a standard D&D game. It tends to work better when we play something that doesn't have the standard expectation for two or three combats per session.

In addition, the roti this week was fucking SUBLIME. Holy cow. It was as close to perfection as Caribbean fast food gets.

I figure since I'm laid out on the couch unable to turn my head more than 8 degrees, I thought I'd ask a question.

Can you get them where you're at?

I've got a Google Notifier for Smart Car mentions, and the strangest thing about one of this morning's posts was that he said they can't get Kinder Surprise eggs in the US.

Really?

Game was good last night, in spite of my character's untimely death.

Am writing this up in company resource room and there appears to be a guy holding a meeting of some kind over the phone.

Very tired today. Will not be going to nerd dinner tonight. Am having conversation with Uday & Qusay over text message about what to get Pater Bitter. We almost got him three copies of "Palestine: Peace, not Apartheid"! Again!

Little Italy was full to the brim last night, so I couldn't go to Dragon Lady for my supplementary comics purchases.

Today was Taco day at work. I like tacos. Tonight will probably be curry.

Cynra & I have been re-watching Lost from the beginning. Man, I forgot how awesome Walkabout was.

And time to say it in.

In brief, then.

Last night game: Good. D&D goes well, but I've noticed that we get a lot more distracted playing D&D than when we play, say, Mutant City Blues or Heroquest.

Dinner last night: Good. The Shwarma was delicious, the rice was excellent, the sauce on the veggies was not too watery, and the tabouleh was delicious. All good!

Invincible Iron Man: Good. I like two things in this book: MODOG (Mental Organism Designed Only for Genocide) and the fact that Fraction actually creates a superteam for the Phillipines.

Of course, he creates them so he can blow them up, but that's better than the way Alpha Flight's been treated lately.

Gym: I'm on my way!

Yes, I shall get movie theatre nachos when the wife & I go see Iron Man agin'.
