Jul. 24th, 2008 03:11 pm- 21:22 @monsura Yeah, loud and clear. #
- 10:05 Fire drill! #
- 13:10 I got my Sinestro Corps Anti-Monitor! #
- 13:17 Is it a little sad that my cell phone recognizes the word 'Sinestro'?. #
Whisper of context:
Seriously, though, I wouldn't think my cell phone, which can't recognize a lot of words, would know Sinestro. Maybe I taught it to it somehow?
The Fire Drill was brief today. And getting back in was a little TOO painless. It should have taken a little longer than that.
And Cynra got me some stuff from SDCC. Now to play the waiting game.
Polls and various
Jun. 19th, 2007 10:39 amYou know, Facebook is pretty much take or leave at this time (and, Jesus, is there a lot of feature creep going on on there!), but one of the neat little things is watching people's relationship notes change. Sure, it can be annoying to see someone's relationship end on their birthday (who does that, really?) but it's interesting to see something switch from, say, "it's complicated" to "in a relationship".
I'm just saying.

Oh, Neato. Turns out the giant HeroClix fig for this summer will be none other than alien dragon (and Big Boss Monster from MUA) Fin Fang Foom.
That, ladies and gentiles, is teh Awesome. Of course, there's no pants on the figure, so a Machine Man carrying pants would have to be modded onto it, but that shouldn't be too hard.

HeroClixology
Oct. 10th, 2006 02:49 pmThis is why HeroClix is awesome. In the new set, Supernova, you can get the Red Ghost and his super apes.
Man, first Stilt Man and now the Red Ghost. The guys who put this game together are such HUGE nerds.

So, my desktop is getting kind of crowded.
On one side, I have the Sinister Ten. I'm pretty sure Venom and Hydro Man were never in it, but he looks so NEAT. EDIT: Okay, it looks like at one time or another, everyone was in it. I thnk I may have been in it for a while.
On the other, half a variant FF (Spiderman and Ghost Rider, I need my Hulk and Wolverine), a fragment of Outsiders (Batman and Geo Force; I gotta bring in Black Lightning (in my pants), Katana and Metamorpho), Kyle Lantern and Nightcrawler (because the FF Nightcawler sculpt was so cool). And Hellboy, also because of coolness factor.
Yep. Crowded.
I got four boosters at Toronto Trek of Sinister. Got three Uniques out of it, including Stilt Man and Black Bolt, which rocks, as they are awesome.

Home agin, home agin
May. 21st, 2006 11:06 pmGood weekend. Off to CanGames with
eyebeams, which was fun. We drove up to Ottawa for the con, leaving Supercar at ACB while we drove Mater & Pater up to Ottawa to spend time with Qusay.
I played surprisingly little, and made contacts for the Expo. I played a Marvel Superheroes game called Dora the Explosive, where I played a mutant fox named Swiper. Afterwards, I ditched a D&D game that gave me bad vibes (asides from concerns with the GM, a player started arguing with him almost immediately regarding party makeup), but played a pickup game of Heroclix with some guys. I pulled a great box (V Superman, E Bizarro, V Starfire & R Scarecrow) which unfortunately left me completely open to being locked down by Outwit. At the end, a mostly unharmed Darkseid took me out.
Ah, well. Had fun, in any case.
Snagged some good swag. Got my Ambush Bug HC fig, couple d20 Future books, and my copy of the old Murphy's Rules back (only been 10 years).

Setting me up for a fall again
Sep. 18th, 2005 10:29 pmWell, as those of you who've been paying attention know, when Cynra & I bought our new house, there was a game n' toy store just around the corner from us. It shut down the week before we moved in.
Last December (or possibly just afterwards) a new shop openned, selling toys in the exact same location. It closed a few months later, the victim of what can be assumed to be bad location and poor planning (I believe you're supposed to have a year's operating costs ready before you open a shop, and openning in January is just a bad idea).
Now, a new store has openned up in Mill-towne, a shop called Gamedom in the local mall.
The only reason I know this is I went to the mall to pickup a birthday card for Uday (wish him a happy one!). Of course, I am happy to see them, and will provide them with my money (they have a copy of Complete Mafia in stock).
Checking that page out, LRG has a lot of support for Mafia. Wow.
Anyway, I told them I'd be back to pick it up, and back I'll go. Good to have a FLGS, at least theoretically. The manager guy I spoke to seemed friendly enough.

Feeling groovy
Aug. 8th, 2005 12:34 amAnd mildly heatstruck.
Hmmm. Let's start at now and go backwards, shall we?
Just finished playing several hours of Jade Empire. Addictive little Xbox RPG game. Props to
the_adzo for that taste o' Joy.
Ate a lukewarm potato, but only because I stopped off to do a little shopping on the way home from dropping off
redeem147. I ate a whopper while she ate her own potato while we drove down the Gardiner.
We were driving from Ed's place where we'd been kibitzing for a bit after a day at Taste of the Danforth.
I was quite depressed, because I had received the previous day a brand new t-shirt from Mater Bitter that I wanted to wear, but forgot. Bright red, the crescent & moon, emblazoned with Turkiye. I'm sure it would have been very comfortable.
TotD was good.
redeem147 bumped into a couple of old aquaintances (one of whom was selling Enviro-Cool temperature regulators, the other of whom was handing out flyers for Jews for Jesus).
Had some souvlaki, walked a bit, didn't get any curry or quail or corn, which was dissapointing in retrospect, but it'll be there next year. Popped into Book City where we picked up a few things, and then headed over to Comics and More where I picked up the final Legionnaire to mail out. Mea culpa for the delay.
Last night, it was dinner with the extended family to celebrate my aunt & uncle's 35th wedding anniversary. The venue was a Brazillian BBQ establishment called the Red Violin. Tasty food, and the green/red card makes me happy. "My card is green! Bring me food!"
Of course, two events conspired to cast a pall on the evening. First off, the venue. while nice, you may notice is located on the Danforth. The Danforth. Yeah, there. A strategic blunder on a level with invading Russia.
Which made getting to it from the hotel Mater & Pater were staying at difficult (we figured parking would be impossible, and we were morstly right; just $20 event parking available). So we took a cab.
Oh, that was fun.
The cabby was, how do you say in the English, an Asshole. He took the Don Mills exit, which added about $10 onto our trip, instead of just getting off at Danforth and letting us walk the 10 feet to the restaurant, he got off at Don Mills and wandered through crowded streets for a while.
Fucktard. I'm gonna yell at someone for that.
Previous to meeting up with the parents, I played some gaming and sat in some backyard with
nottheterritory,
anidada,
noodaypaisley and his wife. We played Star Munchkin (including my newly acquired Star Munchkin 2: the Clown Wars expansion) until I didn't win (Cthulhu killed me dead). We then looked at Chez Geek cards. We ate pizza.
Previous to that,
nottheterritory and I went to Hairy T's to trade in a bundle of old d20 stuff of mine. The credit acquired thus allowed me to pick up a few things, including Blue Rose, d20 Apocalypse, Robin's Laws of Good Game Mastering, Gurps: Weird War 2 (which was a collaboration, not pure Hitey goodness), and a few other things including the Steranko Nick Fury TPB (wow, Stan really did a poor job with his issues). I also got them to throw in a copy of Orkworld, telling them that it had been cluttering up the shelves for five years.
And that was the weekend. Good night.

Lonely now
Aug. 1st, 2005 11:13 pmWell, if Air Canada is up to their usual punctuality (just ask
muskrat_john about that, among others) Cynra should be about 5000 metres above me en route to Bonnie Glasgow.
Which, of course, marks the start of the longest separation we've ever had to endure. Three or four days is annoying enough, but 21 days on the other side of the pond? That's just plain annoying.
So, yeah. I'm here with Los Gatos for a while. Must remember to keep them and myself fed.
kynn, your package should be in the mail tomorrow. HOpe it'll lift your spirits.

I am a shattered wreck of humanity.
Jul. 17th, 2005 11:04 pmThe con was tiring. I'm feeling unrested.
Bought several Heroclix boosters (weak, I am), got a couple U's (Arnim Zola & Nimrod, who's pink for some reason)*. Did panels.
Panels were good. Should have prepared more for SF Cinema in review. Gaming panels are getting worse each year. They have stopped providing a room for them, and simply shunt them into the gaming room, which pretty much destroys them.
The chili in the panellists green room was good. The GI results? Not so good.
There was a guest who did design work on Serenity. While chatting with him in teh hall, he gave me a piece of Alliance money. I thought that was neat. Until I found out a similar piece had sold for a lot at the auction. In which case I felt horrible.
If I saw you this weekend, it was good to see you. Unless you were one of the two people who were fuckwits at two of the parties I attended. In which case, please proceed to the nearest jackhammer to fuck yourselves to death with it.
*HC observations: No version of Luke Cage has the FF team ability, even though he was a member of the team. Several giant sized characters were produced in this latest Marvel HC set, yet they do not have Bill Foster, Black Goliath.

Some thoughts on Mutant Mayhem, the upcoming release for Marvel Heroclix.
Crap, just when I thought I was out, they keep dragging me back in!
Just when I've got Star Wars to keep me geeky, I get a HC set with Alpha Flight in it. Puck, Snowbird, Northstar, and Sasquatch, if I understand correctly.
And, now that they have a Firestar figure, I can finally build that Spider Man and his Amazing Friends team I always wanted to. AND Cloak and Dagger. AND M.O.D.O.K., but he's a Unique.
Unfortunately, they padded it out with the Mauraders and Man Thing.
Feh. First, they deny me Galactus, now M.O.D.O.K. is a unique. Wizkids bastards.

Road Trip? Good! Comic Con? Teh Suck.
Oct. 19th, 2003 10:58 amDrove down to Novi, MI (one of the ugly states) for a comic convention. The ride was fun (we listened to Showtunes & Johnny Cash), and went fairly well for a four hour drive fest.
Eight hours round trip. Sweet Jesus.
The show was mediocre at best. I got a couple autographs (Kurt Busiek & Tony Todd) and stayed clear of Raven because, well, what could I say? "I enjoy the industry you work in, occasionally legitimately, occasionally ironically, but have never really seen you, so I can't say wether or not you're any good, but that's a nice banner, did you make that yourself?"
Of course, for the MOST fun of the afternoon, I played in a HeroClix tournament.
Fuck.
The score was embarassing (primarily because 'leave time' came up halfway my second match, but I'm willing to bet there were no great hopes to be had. The team was good; Magneto (E), Hulk (E), Gambit (V), Meltdown (V), and SHIELD Medic (E).
The rolls? Dude, I couldn't roll above 2. ON BOTH DICE.
Fuck. Quite annoying. The hulk needed something like six to hit Ultron, rolled five. Magneto attempted for THREE TURNS to breakaway from Mme. Masque. Failed. (If I'd attempted to TK her away, it would likely have had the same effect).
Feh. My Game Fu was weak.
Dinner was had at a Harvey's in Sarnia. I introduced
rockgoddes' lad Riley to the art of 'pull my finger'.
Game today. Missed breakfast because the alarm clock didn't go off. Don't ask me WHY it didn't go off. That will just make me angry.

Jun. 10th, 2003 08:52 pmBad news: Wife has been assigned to the grade two class in her school. This means that she is now looking for work in another school, as she prefers juniors to primary.
Good news: I found the base to my Magneto fig. Or at least, Ra decided to return it to me.
Ugly News: well, not ugly, but LJ has ceased to let me know when people have replied to my posts/etc. It annoys me.

Geeky ruminations
Jun. 4th, 2003 10:51 pmWent to Senor Z's tonight to play the Clix. You know, for someone who's pumped a bit too much cash into those things, I really suck. :)
Nightcrawler is the Good fig, of course, but I really need to learn to avoid the large brick holding a heavy object. Lesson #1. Did pick up on the whole 'use a medic, dammit!' thingy. Still, learning curve for TJME is steep, and I can't get traction.

Apr. 22nd, 2003 08:56 pmWent to Mr. Z's last night to split our case of Xplosin clix. For Uniques, I got Weapon X, Hulk, Phoenix & Deathbird.
Got pretty much what I wanted (except for a Vet Iron Man, which there was only one of and Z got it, being a huge IM fan with first pick).
Got my income tax refund. About 3/4 what I was hoping it would be. Will put a bit for GenCon, some for credit cards.

Apr. 16th, 2003 11:00 pmTook a Justin day today. WOke up in no state for work. So I didn't do any.
The day consisted of rest, bacon n' eggs, a little writing (literally little; maybe 20 words on the Jewel of the three brothers, but at least I've opened a Feyadeen file), Xbox, tidying up crap in the back room.
Made Chicken Leftover #2 (a la King) for dinner with the lemon rice. Good.
The HeroClix box Colleen gave me for my birthday is almost completely assembled. I'll put all my uniques in it.
The case Mr. Z & I ordered from the game shop is in. We'll have to pick it up next week.
