The Rant du Jour has made Fandom Wank.

It is good, like seeing the sun rise.

You know what surprises me? That there's no Legolas/Kirk slash.

I mean, we KNOW that Kirk goes for guys with pointy ears, right?

Okay, so Supercar needed to visit the home base so YHB couldn't go back to Kingston for the weekend. Cynra & I instead spent it with her doing report cards and I going slowly insane.

I honestly can't remember for the life of me what we did yesterday. I know the watch was fixed, and we discovered that the only Paul Anke cd available in Milton was his rock remix one (je ne pense pas, kids).

Today, while she did more report card stuff, I went to Oshawa to pick up our Browncoat t-shirts and visit one of the guys running a batch of events at the Expo. I headed for a couple others, but since it was the weekend of the other show (run the exact same weekend as C-Ace) they were off perpetratin' commerce.

Met up with Cynra at her workplace where I helped glue a few huts together, and I have the blisters to prove it. I love glue guns.

Back home in time to be completely confused by the finale of The Sopranos.

Uh oh

According to Whedonesque, Flanvention 2 may be cancelled. This would be unfortunate, as I know people who have invested significantly into the convention and the trip down. And considering to ticket prices, it was an investment.

(xposted to [livejournal.com profile] canbrowncoats).

Normally, I have no love for fanficish things (sorry!), but this is amusing. Serenity Tales: Notes on a Fridge. For the Browncoats in the house.

Anyway, so on Whedonesque, JW confirmed in an amusing if long winded post that he would make a Serenity sequel if someone asked him which is pretty much the same thing as saying he won't. Prove me wrong, kids! Prove me wrong!

Anyway, his post included some of his other commitments, including these two I'm very excited about:

2) I've got a thirteen episode commitment from the CW, so get ready for the long-awaited "Primative and Cheese Man". She's the first Slayer, he's a meaningless hallucination -- can they put aside their differences long enough to fight crime?

3) "CLEM!" Broadway. The number where he eats Rum Tum Tuggle will make you laugh and cry and throw up in your mouth slightly.

Because the world has demanded a Clem musical.

So, yeah. Saturday.

It started out like any other day, with my pupils dilated so large daylight was painful.

Okay, that's really not any other day, now is it?

Early Saturday morning, Cynra & I had gone down to Chinatown West for our irregular eye exams (we hadn't been back in four years or so) and ot make preliminary orders for new specs (I'm hoping to get two pair, one regular & one solar resistant, although I may just get Nerd-Class clip ons).

Afterwards, we went to the mall thingy at Bay & Bloor, grabbed some lunch (and should have really just walked up the street and grabbed some pizza), watched The US vs John Lennon (Spoiler: he dies at the end!), which was a good documentary, although a bit too hippy porn for my tastes. Yes, the Nixon administration was bad, like someone else we could mention, wink wink. Yeah, Lennon wasn't exactly smart about who he was hanging out with, unless he WANTED to be associated with people who were attempting social change (but what are the odds).

It did give a lot of details about what he was up to during his post beatles years. The whole bagism thing was pretty neat, in an "I'm a rock star married to a crazy performance artist" way, and the head games they played with the media ("come see us making love on our honeymoon!") were cute, too.

Afterwards, it was off to 401 to take advantage of the board game sale (MMA & Betrayal at HotH were my picks) as well as pick up a couple games of Fluxx for Cynra and a booster of the BH expansion for SWMG.

I was contemplating getting a case, but I've decided to get a few boosters and wait until the Starship battle game comes out and maybe go hog wild on that. Or just get a couple Super Sized comic book compilations. Hmmm. Sandman or Morrison's New X-Men?

Dinner after that was the Browncoat dinner at the E&C to celebrate a year after Serenity. It was much fun, and I had dinosaurs making the sweet love on my head. Lunch at the Manulife centre had filled us up, so we just had some soup and drinks. The menu has apparently been adjusted, as portions seem smaller, and prices seem larger. The two just shouldn't go together like that.

Awesome time, in any case. Much fun for all the peeps, and I got to spend a great night with some fine ladies. No, seriously, there were thirty people and one other guy. What's the opposite of a sausage party, again?

The first nine minutes of Serenity.

Recent conversation at Casa Bitter:

Cynra: Don't leave the butter open! It'll attract fruit flies!

YHB: I really don't think they're interested in butter. They're not butter flies, after all.

C: I can't believe you just said that.

Cynra & I picked up our Serenity tickets on Wednesday night, which was nice. Going to our favourite AMC (the quiet one, where the hoodlums don't go).

Yesterday I went to Thursday night Mage game (first session) so I thought, new game, new dinner! I stopped off on Queen to go to Gandhi's Roti shop and picked up the butter chicken dinner. It seemed kind of pricey, but I was feeling adventurous.

Then I got it to Robin's for game.

Oh, Lord. The roti was the size of a football, I swear. It was massive. The filling was great, chunks of chicken & potato in a creamy sauce, and the food had enough for two people to eat.

Unfortunately, it was so good I kept nibbling at it all evening. Which meant I felt very, very bad this morning.

Mage game went well. The GM is allowing player goals to direct the events of the game. My lacksidasical PC generation skills once again provided amusement ("Hey, I have three dots in stealth!"). And I'm still creeped out by the thought that it might be my chracter's quarters invisibly under the glass floor of the CN Tower's viewing port.

May have to kill one or two of the other PCs. But you never know.

Now, I know there's been some hateration going on (some of it rather amusing, some of it... "special olypmics" style [Link cut to preserve the stupid]), but I'm gonna ignore that because I am what is known in the papers as an upstanding member of society.

Okay, here's the question I'm gonna ask: So, who's planning on seeing Serenity? Cynra & I are probably gonna go to a Friday night show, and join the [livejournal.com profile] canbrowncoats for the Shindig after they take in the weekend show.

I know, I've seen it twice already, but it's a good flick, enjoyable, especially the Hungadunga.

Anyone else going?

The Serenity website has received a major upgrade (lots o' bells n' whistles).

For those looking forward to it, there's a couple of fan sites for you to be interested in.

In a fit of ennui, I've created an LJ community to correspond to the Canadian Browncoats group. Called, oddly enough, [livejournal.com profile] canbrowncoats (they only give you 15 letters), it's open to all.

Well, all Canadian Firefly fans. Or at least Firefly fans who feel Canadian. Or have felt Canadians. Or something like that.

This post, btw, is spoiler free.

Delightful film, that. Characters seem only slightly diminished (Simon & River's position within the crew is less than it was), but plot is powerful. Much seen and heard of Reapers.

Sean Maher did attend the screening (charming young man), but apologies to [livejournal.com profile] liquidize, they barred us from bringing duct tape.

Delightful. Should you wish to see it, the wait to September will be worth it.

Uberwench.com is the site of Janet Buterman, a cancer survivor.

Janet is a member of the Canadian Browncoats, a group of GWN'rs who love Firefly. I heartily endorse her website for purposes of edification and amusement.

Yesterday.

Yes, I'll talk about yesterday.

The majority of the day was standard household puttering. We left in the afternoon to do some shopping (Canadian Tire for cable hooks and Sears for dungarees for Snra).

Christmas props are for sale pretty much everywhere. You must admit, the Yanks, for all their quirks, at least wait until later in the month to start the vending of December Holiday merchandise.

In any case, after we finished shopping, we went off to catch The Incredibles at the local AMC.

The Bitter Guy has something to say )

Anyway, after the flick, we motor on downtown to join the members and hangers on of Canadian Browncoats )
where we enjoyed delightful Chinese Food (and the most painless group check in human history), and a discussion of why there is little hope of reconciliation in the Southern Republic until the issue of States Rights is settled, since all Firefly fans are such strong believes in the concept.

Anyway, in attendance were many of The Usual Suspects ).

Karaoke was fun. The venue was good, although the Book was rather short. The organization was very interesting. It was reversible, organized by artist in one direction, song title in another. I hit the jackpot in "totally inappropriate Karaoke Videos", though.

During I will Survive, we were treated to images of a young lady learning to shoot things. Now, admittedly, not COMPLETELY unrelated to the concept of survival, at least from certain perspectives, but still a distance from the standard visual cues inspired by that tune.

But, for The Night Chicago Died, they completely lost control. While I was hollah'n along to a '70s pop epic about Al Capone's takeover of Chicago, we were treated to visuals of... Venezuelan cliff divers.

Dude, that TOTALLY gets a big 'ol WTF? I mean, pictures of Chicago, sure! Hell, paste in a few shots of Al Capone and B&W pictures of cops arresting mobsters and shit, sure. But VENEZUELAN CLIFF DIVERS?

The mind! It boggles!

Feh.

Overall, fun. My standards (notably Baby Got Back, Walk This Way) were absent from the book, but I still had a good time.

Serenity: The Official Movie Website

It has begun.

Yeah, yeah, I know that some of you couldn't give to shakes of a rat's ass. Have a merry Christmas in any case.
