Though I eat basically as I ate growing up, the variety of flavours, fresh vegetables and meats, and lack of processed food in my current diet is based on loving food too much to eat things like Highliner fishsticks or processed cheese slices.

Now, I'm an omnivore.

But, with my cholesterol levels, my blood pressure numbers, and a host of other things, Wife(v.2.0) has decided that we are going to be pescaterians in the future (fish + ovo-lacto-vegetarian).

Since I'm allowed to keep fish and shellfish and whatnot in my diet, I'm not too upset about losing other sources of protien; I wasn't hot on them anyway, since I can no longer afford the really good beef, pork, lamb, and other meats that I so love.

And since I'm moving to the coast, the fruit of the sea should be cheaper. And there's a good chance that I'll finally be able to score a decent plate of escargot.

It's not so much what the food is as how it's prepared. So I avoid fried foods, or rich sauces (which I don't enjoy anyway unless it's butter chicken) and am trying to eat more vegetables. I also try to eat smaller portions and avoid snacking.

I eat a lot less French-Canadian, Eastern European and Hungarian food now ... my parents never really taught me how to cook that stuff. On the other hand, I eat a lot more food of other ethnicities ... curries were unknown to me as a kid, as was any kind of Asian food not generally associated with "Classic North American Chinese Take Out."

These days I normally regret cholesterol/sodium-rich food after I finish it, rather than avoiding it. I *should* change that.

Doug.

I've been advised to cut out salt in an attempt to lower my blood pressure. I don't want to start taking pills, I'd rather try to make some lifestyle changes. It seems to be working, by making a serious effort to abstain from salt, my blood pressure was down significantly my last check-up. No processed foods because they're high in sodium has led me to eat more the way I did when growing up. With the exception of bread, my mom made pretty much all the food we ate. I also try to follow Canada's food guide when making decisions as to what to eat.

My name is Tenzil Kem, and as a native of Bismoll, microbes made all food inedible, so my people evolved the ability to eat all matter as a survival mechanism.

I eat as I grew up, albeit with a bit more diversity. The main thing that regulates the quality of what I eat is the amount of money I have to spend. I'd eat better foods if I could afford it, which I can't, so unfortunately, I don't.

I can't eat a lot of meat any longer, as it makes me kinda sick. ^_^ Overly rich food does the same thing. I figure my gall bladder is on its way out, so I'm trying to ease its passing by eating healthier. Side effects of this? I'm feeling a TON better and finally losing some weight. ^_^

I got forced to eat a lot of foods in my youth, and because a lot of them didn't agree with my tummy, my tummy now acts violently when they are introduced into my diet. So I have a fairly limited diet. :-(

I was lacto-ovo vegetarian for nearly 7 years in my younger years (approximately 16-22) because I stopped enjoying the taste of meat. Eventually I started craving it again, and now enjoy watching the weird/shocked looks I get when I order my steak "blue rare".

As for eating habits, I eat more or less what I did as a child, only with more fresh vegetables, and with more variety.

I am an ovo vegetarian that will occasionally venture into pescetarian, but ONLY in times of sheer desperation (as in, I'm somewhere where it's too difficult to get soy or other protein rich foods and I'm on the verge of fainting).

I ended up having to mark all of your second section. I actually don't have an ethical issue with animal consumption, my ethical issue is the way animals are treated pre-consumption. Also, I believe that, at least in the US, there is far too much seperation between the meat in the grocery store and where it came from, so I wish people knew more about what they are actually consuming here.

My family was veg, when I turned 18 and moved out, I started eating meat again, I gained 100 lbs, so I stopped. I've lost 45 of it, so I must be doing something right. If I lived somewhere other than Denver, I may make a decision not to be veg, but at this time, it's so easy to do with the amount of local farmers markets around here.

Also, my husband is a very strict lacto-ovo vegetarian, so that pretty much makes me the same.

Technically, I'm a paleolithic dieter. I don't eat things that require extensive preparation, including grains and beans. Just meat, fruit, veggies, and dairy (and some paleo eaters would yell at me for the dairy). I put down "omnivore" up above because it seemed to fit the way you were classifying things.

As for the way meat is treated pre-consumer, that's part of the reason I prefer to eat game meats. Fortunately, bison is very easy to get out here in BC.

I'm the one vegan there, though you probably already knew that.

I do it for ethical reasons, not because I believe that eating meat is wrong but more because the process by which most people get meet is horrendously unethical. Not just for the animals, but for the environment.

Clear cutting the rainforest so that people can east .39 hamburgers at McDonalds isn't something I call great for anyone.

Lacto ovo vegetarian. I tried to avoid prepakaged premade food because it tends to make me very ill after a short period of time. But i tend to eat very poorly my work schedule do not leave alot of time for food prep. ie school and shift work.

I avoid sugar on the advice of medical profesionals. the women in my famiuly tend to develop diabites later on in life.

I am an Omnivore, with Carnivorous cravings. I LOVE meat of all kinds, usually the more exotic the better. Venison is one of my favorite foods evar!

I don't mind most vegetables and eat them regularly, but I can't stand most fruit besides bananas and occassionally an apple.

I am a fairly adventurous eater nowadays. When I was a kid, I was pretty picky, but now I'll try most anything. Growing up it was the typical "Farm Diet" of garden fresh vegetables, plenty of wild game, tons of pork (my dad worked at a hog farm) and it was all really good stuff, but I tend to get more enjoyment out of foods that weren't available when I was growing up, like Asian and Mexican cuisine. Sushi, and other exotic foodstuffs.

I'm an onmivore... I'm assuming that "omnivoire" is the Canuckian equivalent, so I selected that.

If something ain't moving too fast, I'll probably eat it unless it's a crustacean (allergies, yanno). Veggies, legumes, chickens, fire hydrants... all qualify as food if they can me made to taste good and, optionally, be healthful. I eat very little salt due to my wife's dietary issues.

I've always been an omnivore, but I have as an adult made the conscious decision not to be a vegetarian or anything of the sort... for several reasons, not just the fact that animals are made of meat and therefore are yummy. I would prefer that animals should be treated well, but they're still food and that's a big part of why they exist as far as I'm concerned.

Mmm, they are very tender... but they taste a bit funky due to the milk/formula/babyfood diet. Gives the meat a strange aftertaste.

Toddlers on the other hand, their flesh fattened and sweetened by tons of candy and junk food... pure porky goodness!

*lol*(jk)
