Ladies and gentlemen! Let us now turn our attention to a battle from the natural world, as two of nature's great predators face off in the Hoo'd Win arena!

Now, I ask you a question that has harried men and women through the centuries, stymied great thinkers, and turned philosophers to the bottle! Well, to another bottle.

I ask you now, this! Hoo'd win? A Liger, or a Grizzly bear?

Consider all the facts! Weigh your thoughts carefully! Ponder all the relevant data! Or just guess!

Begin! Now!

In what terrain are they fighting? Under what circumstances? Do they just come across each other or is a forced ringside fight to the finish?

In most cases, even tho greatcat is fast and the grizzly would risk a bleedout if he was caught in a bad place, I have to put my money on Grizzly. There are a few reasons for this.

I'd mostly base my guess on the fact that in documented cases where a North american mountain cat is caught by a bear, (i.e. a black bear), dragging it's prey, the cat will run leaving it for the bear. That is kitty smarts no doubt.

India has a Gir forest. That's scary.

In any sort of confined area, the GB would pwn. The only way the Liger would win is if it could use superior speed and manuverability to keep striking at the GB's back, getting out of range before the GB could strike back - like back in the old bear baiting days when a pack of dogs would take town a bear (with heavy lossses usually).

All the ligers I know are furries, and pretty scrawny. Bear, definitely.

The title character in the movie Napoleon Dynamite declares ligers to be "pretty much" his favorite animals, and states that they are bred for their "skills and magic". [1]

I would say that though the Grizzly Bear is bigger and stronger and in general more dangerous, the Liger's skills and magic would likely give it an edge. Though, which schools of magic? If the Liger only knew Divination and Illusion, I'm not sure, but if it was an Evoker Liger, then most likely the Bear could be frightened by some sort of Magic Missile.

Bigger?

Ligers grow to be up to 16 fet long and are larger than both lions and tigers. I fail to see why everyone is giving the bear the size advantage.

I give the edge to the bear if for no other reason than the bear is not accustomed to g=dealing with predators anywhere near its own size whereas ligers (if wild ligers were common) would be used to taking down large prey such as elephants.

Then you'd give the edge to the Liger, right? You wrote "bear".

Well, all respects due to Jushin "Thunder" Liger, but I'd have to go with "The Russian Bear", Ivan Koloff, if we're talking both wrestlers in their prime.

Jushin is awesome, but his offensive abilities are really limited against anyone weighing more than say 200-220 pounds. Ivan would just take a beating from Jushin, and then Nikita would run into the ring when the ref was being distracted by Ivan, and he'd hit Jushin with the Russian Sickle clothesline, and then bolt out of the ring.

And Ivan'd cover Jushin for the 1-2-3.
