Quizzes don't count if they're from The National Broadcaster. The Ceeb has a Quiz on movie teachers. I got nine, only because I've still not watched Animal House. Sigh.

[livejournal.com profile] kynn was curious about the mission to retake Baghdad; when, he asked, was it lost? I pointed him to the following news article from this summer:

Check Under The Bed, Congress Implores

June 23, 2006 --

US Forces in Iraq today announced that they had lost Baghdad. "Seriously," announced Major General Louis McDougal "we had it right here. And now, poof."

A Marine Force Recon platoon has been dispatched to search behind the fridge and the couch, and even checked in the basement, to no avail.

McDougal was dismayed with the delay in the search. "Seriously, this is a thousands year old city here. You don't just misplace something like that."

Posters with the picture of Baghdad on the front have been placed on telephone poles in Tikrit and Basra, and a $350 reward has been listed for its return. Anyone spotting Baghdad is asked to call the Baghdad Come Home number, 1-888-983-4727.

So, last night was interesting. Comics day at Dragon Lady, where I picked up Batman & The Spirit (big confession: never read a Spirit comic before; enjoyed this. Cooke's Batman is so refreshing compared to the humourless sociopath people want these days), Agents of Atlas #6 (What! A! Twist!), 52 #XX, where XX is this week's issue, Joss-Men, and something else. My memory, it sucks.

The highlight was a few minuts spent kibbitzhing with [livejournal.com profile] papajoemambo. During our conversation, a local demo team leader lumbered into the shop. Man, talk about awkward. None of you guys told him about that recounting of the Expo, did you? It was actually chillier in the store than outside, and not just because of global warming!

Batman & The Spirit is an awesome crossover, in spite of the Deus Ex Machina at the end. Joss-Men is going into space, so that's always good, although I think there may have been a page or two missing, as it kind of didn't make sense. 52 is going somewhere (I think at this point my assumption of Supernova's ID is cut here for speculation. )

Agents of Atlas, once again, rocked. Great ending.

Game was exciting. GM has decided to try something out of the ordinary, so it's a two part game. Part one is a political cockfight, with each PC in a cabinet level position in the President of the Empire of the United States' cabinet. Mine is the Minister of defense. That's important, because the second part is each of us play a special forces soldier embroiled in whatever wars/military actions we start.

I think the GM quickly regretted a piece of setting info he gave us; the setting is slightly satirical, a combination of modern America and ancient Rome in the future. He mentioned corporate influence, such as Disney buying naming rights for warships. He mentioned how they had created dark, militaristic characters to name the ships after, but we quickly ejected that, as I called for a Goofy Class Carrier group to be sent to an alien planet, and the Chief of Staff suggesting a Minnie would do fine.
