via XKCD.com.

If only they had a DM's screen up, so we could see who was running the game.

What book was the Paladin in in OD&D?

Good old E. Gary Gygax. I'll miss the Dungeon Master.

Not sure where the Paladin was introduced in OD&D. Greyhawk, probably.

In AD&D, it was Unearthed Arcana.

The paladin is first introduced in Supplement I to OD&D (Greyhawk) in 1975, although it's a slightly different class than the one that appeared later in the AD&D Players Handbook in 1977. The OD&D paladin isn't a spellcaster, for example, and the class isn't technically limited by race, although the text doesn't specifically allow the possibility of dwarf, elf, or hobbit/halfling paladins.

Of course! The Paladin existed before AD&D!

As I said, Paladin is Greyhawk! (OD&D, not AD&D), which also added the Thief!

In AD&D, the Paladin was a Fighter subclass in the Players Handbook. Unearthed Arcana added the Cavalier as its own class, and the Paladin became a subclass of that.
