Hoo'd Win: Part There can be only one last man on Earth!

This Friday will see the release of I Am Legend, the latest film iteration of the book of the same name (which is the same story as The World's Shortest Horror Story, pretty much). In it, Robert Neville is the last man on Earth and must hide/battle/cure ravening hordes of Zombies/Vampires/Libertarians.

Neville has a strong cinematic pedigree, having been illuminated in the images of Vincent Price in The Last Man on Earth, Charleton "Cold Dead Fingers!" Heston in The Omega Man. In it, Libertarian Zompires pry things from people's hands. Hey, they obviously earned it!

The newest iteration stars Will 'Hell No!' Smith as Robert Neville. Apparently he's an army bacteriologist or something. This version, the first one actually named I Am Legend will likely incite Nerd Rage, as it involves an old story and the only thing grumpier than a Nerd is an old Nerd.

In this film, a man and his dog survive in an abandoned New York, playing Golf, driving around, and sleeping at night in a tub. I guess it's lonely after the apocalypse.

Unfortunately, only one of these megastars of the world can be the winner! Which Neville will reign supreme?

I actually preferred Vincent Price's take. The movie itself is middling but Price is superb.

But, you know, I think it would be cool if they re-used the "Honky Paradise" line from The Omega Man. Though, presumably the Luddite survivors from the Heston flick aren't in this one.

I'm not sure I'd make that presumption.

We don't see the "zompires" of The Last Man on Earth using any technology until near the end of said movie. It could very well be that Neo-Luddites are a universal feature.

Once again, Hollywood took a dump all over the ending. He's not a legend because he's become a monster to the new society of survivors. He's a legend because he cures the mutant vampire plague and makes the world shiny and happy again.
