MPIX on Demand has all the original Trek movies on show. So, I watched (semi-watched) TMP. Man, the orbital transporter tech was hot.

Anyway, I can understand why some might have found it less than engaging. I remember having the Happy Meal.

Which jokey subtitle for Star Trek: The Motion Picture do you prefer?

Although it absolutely requires that one be fairly well versed in ST:ToS to understand it, I've always liked

"Where Nomad Has Gone Before."

Nerd anecdote: I saw that episode at my first con when I was 12. When Nomad zaps Scotty, and McCoy pronounces "He's dead, Jim!" the video room burst into applause. My young mind was appalled at their heartlessness.

Now, of course, I get it, but you have to start somewhere.

The Nomad episode is the one the 80s band Information Society used for 90% of their sampling. I always assumed they got permission to sample that episode, and so stretched it over a half dozen songs and two albums.

I so loved that band.
