Meh. I initially mis-read it as Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls, and wondered how there'd be a whole kingdom of them. One isn't nearly as interesting as many.

There's one too many information-carrying words. You can have the X of Y, or the YZ, but the X of the YZ is just silly. Observe:

"Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom": fine.
"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Skulls": a touch lame, but basically fine.
"Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade": fine.
"Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull": meh.
"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull": just too damn much going on.

I totally agree. A point to make on that, though, is that the first movie now breaks that pattern with the adding of "Indiana Jones and the", as they have so very thoughtfully done.

Or "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". I suspect that this is the real reason that the title includes "Kingdom" and "Crystal Skull" -- the common abbreviation for the first film is "Raiders Of The Ark", and so now we have "Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull".

According to IMDB that would seem to be the case... it lists "Indiana Jones and the..." as the alternate (US Video) title.

Well I'm glad they're sticking with real world legend and lore that may have actually existed rather than going the Lara Croft route and inventing mystic lore. It sort of makes it a bit more interesting. I know that the magic stones were made up I assume but the Grail and the Ark of the Covenant were "real world" legends at least and the crystal skull, if it's the one I'm thinking of, has fascinated people for ages, literally.

I would not have minded IJ: Kingdom of the Skull, IJ: The Crystal Skull, IJ, Kingdom of Crystal (kinda sounds Rainbow Brite-ish) or just, IJ, IN YOUR FACE!
But that title sounds so....Mary Sue-like, and written by a 12 year old.
