So, yah. Picked up a few comics (She Hulk#4, ASM 528 & Plastic Man 20).

Plas was just hilarious. "Sivana blasting Billy full of holes would have been bad enough. Bad Enough got worse when Sivana invited Dr. Light over to do what Dr. Light does to victims now. Like that's Light's new power."

She Hulk #4 was interesting, and was a bit of an eye opener for me. I have, for some time, had grievances with the way The Hulk is generally portrayed. After 9/11, we've seen what the body count associated with that kind of damage is. Millar's Ultimates was only too happy to exult in that sort of thing.

But, somewhere recently, I read something on a blog about accepting the conventions, embracing the madness, as it were. Bruce Banner, deep down, wouldn't want anyone to get hurt. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if he did.

I guess I just realized that that's true. I have to trust that the creators do, too. If I can believe in a gamma powered creature that can leap 25 miles at a time, I can believe he always does it in a straight line. That they always know where he's going to land, and that they can get everyone out in time. And I think I can do that.

Picked up a Universe booster, and got Princess Leia, Rebel Hero as well as a Viper Droid. Where the heck are those things from? It's neat, that's for sure. Got an Armour Wars booster, and, as is my luck, pulled the worst possible Unique. Feh.

"She-Hulk" #4 is pretty damn good, much better, frankly, than most "serious" Marvel comics these days. I love the bit with the support group, and especially with the founder of the Green Cross, which is an idea I hope we see more of.

As for Millar...well...I hate the Ultimates. I'm still astounded that somebody who can get the X-Men so, so right can get the Avengers so terribly, mind-blowingly wrong.

Ultimate X-Men was GREAT.

That would be a great way to read the Ultimates since it's so obviously a political screed first, a cartoon of various American types second, and a comic book a distant third. Unfortunately, Mark Millar is either a macho conservative idiot or (more likely) a smug liberal idiot, since he has not a clue about how legislative bodies and governments actually operating, nor does he care. "The Ultimates 2" was good until the last issue and then he rocketed right past my suspension of disbelief.

And I want to beat him to death over his characterizations. A cannibalistic Hulk? A macho-asshole Captain America? Hank Pym an insecure spouse-abuser? Thor a self-righteous hippie? Why should I like these people? What makes them noble or good or true?

Yeah, Stan's creations were flawed, but not THAT flawed. They did the right thing for the right reasons; the Marvel U Cap has never hestitated to turn again his country (he even killed the President to save the country in one arc.) Decades of work developed Cap as a honorable soldier and Millar flushes it down the toilet for a "Let's-kill-them-A-rabs" dickhead. If I ever meet the guy in person, I might just punch his lights out for that.

The rant's over, sorry. But I really hate that book.

She Hulk? Are you the customer for that particular run?

I forgot the word "only". :)

I can't imagine that being a very popular super hero. Kinda like Super Dog or Super Boy. Is it any good? Compared to The Hulk? Is The Hulk and She Hulk items? Is he "hittin' that"?

Cousins. I didn't know that. I don't follow the add-on superheroes, which seemed to have been created during some PC era where the comic companies felt there needed to be a female (or child) version of every major superhero.

Actually, especially for continuity dweebs, the first run alone is freakin' hysterical. A superhuman law firm is a brilliant concept and Dan Slott runs with it like the Flash.

If nothing else, you have to read the issue where Spider-Man sues the Daily Bugle for slander. It's hysterical and actually taps very well into Spidey's sense of guilt, nailing the tonal shifts really well.
