What, exactly, was everyone complaining about? A film about The Punisherthat doesn't suck to the same degree as the 80s Lundgren crapfestshould have been manna from heaven to the Castle adoring out there.

But no, it was all "wah, wah, I don't like it."

Seriously. Castle is military guy (only he's mustered out and is a cop now), and his family gets killed. He takes vengeance on evil. Fine.

Sure, I could have done without the Family o' Losers he bunks with (if they could have kept Rebecca Romaine-Hotness in it, all the better. Perhaps as a stripper), but that was fine. And I'm led to believe the whole psychological torture aspect of it is in keeping in step with the current portrayal of the character.

And they even got in a couple extended firefight sequences, so that was good. Okay, Kevin Nash as a big guy was kinda un-necessary, but still. Enjoyable.

I actually loved the new Punisher, especially compared to Dolph's Most Excellent Sewer Adeventure.

And what was wrong with the Russian?

It was funny to me.

Mostly because I've watched Nash wrestle for years and this was one of his better performances. He actually acted like he felt things.

Yeah, I didn't think it was all that bad. Wasn't all that good, but in context (comparing it to Dolph's crapfest), it was ok.

Most people complain b/c Frank was never a federal agent before becoming the Punisher. LIke it fucking matters.

Ah, well, fanboys. Can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em.

Mmmm, baseball bats.

(btw, whomever you are, you just gained like 1000 coolness points - I thought I was the only person who used that line.)

Really?

First time I've ever used the "That's why God invented ___" line with baseball bats. Swanky.

No shit. I read an interview with Tim Burton, he said he went to a comic book convention in the 70s, and there was a panel promoting the new Superman movie, and some guy stood up and told the producers he was going to get everyone he knew to boycott the movie because Superman didn't change his clothes in the fucking phone booth.

The new Punisher movies biggest problem was that it was boring. I found the fight scenes were well made, but short and few. Most of the movie was watching Frank Castle look sad and drink. Which without the requisite character development is just boring.

Also, his final punishment of the villain was so insanely over the top I could not help but feel sorry for the villain. I am not entirely sure if that is a plus or a minus for the film. But mostly I was just bored while watching the film.

Well I suppose if I was reading a the same time as well I would have enjoyed the movie more as well.

The fact that the Travolta character never really came across as evil did not help the movie either. Besides the night before I saw the Punisher I watched Man on Fire. Now that was a good cruel revenge flick. Punisher should have been more like that movie.

Whatever happened to jigsaw? Now that would have been fun to do.

I just think it's pointless to make a Punisher movie. The premise of the character upon his debut was, "What if one of those vigilantes from the Charles Bronson/Clint Eastwood movies wandered into a four-color comic universe. How does Spider-Man deal with a guy who's plan for fighting crime is 'shoot them with a big gun?'" In a movie environment, he's just another guy, y'know?

The premise of the character upon his debut, back in the 70's, was a guy who didn't kill, too. Like the rest of his original premise, that's been thrown to the side.

(maybe early 80's - but whenever his debut was, it was a while ago, the character has evolved.)

Ok, so he was a killer who used mercy bullets?

I seem to remember that, and another one (also back in the day) where he shot someone he and Spidey were after, and Punny was all like, "Yo, m'fer! Dey be mercy bullets, see?" w/o the ghettospeak, of course.

That sequence with the Russian was practically the only thing I liked about that movie. To be honest, I think the whole thing took a wrong turn with the killing of Frank's family. Killing his wife and kids is necessary to the origin. Killing his second cousins and aunts twice removed (not to mention all their kids) is just insane overkill.
