Okay, over in wacky-land, Indecipherable Brad has once again come forward to dispense something like wisdom. Or possibly just needs to up his dosage. Or, God willing, he's just doing an April Fool.

In any case, now he's decided that The Taliban's been going easy on us, but now that they know we've got pagans in our army, look out!

Okay, yeah, I really, REALLY hope it's just an AF joke, because otherwise I've finally discovered someone with a sense of pagan entitlement: "Oh, they may hate us for being non-Islamic westerners who've invaded their country, but now that they know we harbour pagans, we're screwed!"

So Cynra & I finally did the Heist night we'd been threatening to do for several months last night. We picked three flicks (with the assistance of the heroes out there) and put together a Not Luck dinner party out of Bob Blumer's Off the Eaten Path cookbook.

(The above Bollywood vid from Dil Se, BTW, is the music from the opening of The Inside Man, which fits pretty well).

The first film was Riffifi, a classic French film of the genre. It's about a team of crooks who decide to go for the big score by robbing a diamond merchant. Now, naturally, the heist goes off flawlessly, but it's afterwards that things go horribly wrong.

What's impressive is that the actual heist is carried out in complete silence. Not a word is spoken, or a sound made for thirty minutes; no score, either. In fact, since I had to step away to make the pasta sauce at this point, or at least to start the prep work, I thought that the silence meant they'd paused the film.

Dinner was bruschetta with prosciutto, pasta with sauce (a quick sauce, but one that turned out very well) and biscotti. There was a selection of cheeses first, including a cheddar with onions that was divine; we kind of did end up celebrating Cheese Weasel day in any case.

The Killing, one of Stanley Kubrick's earlier films, was the second film. It was also enjoyable; it jumped around a lot in time, which the narrator was kind enough to explain. It might be interesting to see it play out in real time, and see each of the players moving into place.

The finale was Spike's The Inside Man. Definitely an enjoyable film. Always fun to see the amateur CSI's on the imdb going at it.
