So, I headed to the wellness centre this morning to get back onto the regular workout horse, and seem to have found myself also on the sore neck pony.

I was doing a press on the incline bench and arched into the last rep. That, ladies and germs, is what's known as a mistake. I'm gonna go home tonight and shotgun Ovaltine and schnapps (So it's an old man's drink! Fuck off!) with Advil and slap a heating pad onto my shoulders.

Man, you never appreciate neck mobility until you lose it.

No heat, use ice. At least for today. It's an acute pain, so heat will just increase the inflammation.

Alcohol and NSAIDS are a bad mix, and are likely to lead to gastritis if not worse. I'd pick one or the other (the latter has more analgesic attributes), and take it with food to boot.

While the others are offering real, sound advice, let me give you my own anecdotal suggestion: the one time I had real neck pain (to the point where I walked like a robot, or like Stephen Harper, but now I'm repeating myself), the solution was the consumption approximately a pint of a mixture of pineapple juice and rum, in a 50/50 solution. Somehow, all of the alcohol went to the affected area, and I found myself remarkably sober and free of neck pain. True story.
