Highlight of the weekend was getting to socialize with some friends. I mentioned that Gabe and I grabbed some Shwarma Saturday night. On Sunday afternoon I met [livejournal.com profile] cairde_luis and her little girleen for lunch at Zack's.

Now, prior to that I stopped by Fandom II where I got a Babylon 5 module that is essentially West Wing in Spaaaace, with Telepaths and a couple Star Wars CMG boosters.

I once again am jonesing for a SW RPG game. I'm contemplating picking up the Saga Edition and the Legacy sourcebook and going kind of nuts.

Anyway, while at Fandom II I noticed that there was a new Bella Sara product out, which was a collectible horse fig. I figured, the girl is at that age where little girls like horses, right? So why not pick one up for her.

I managed to nail one of the free parking spots in the Byward Market (fear my parking-fu!) and met up with the girls, and we headed to Zack's for lunch. I am a sucker for a blue cheeseburger.

When we were waiting for a table to clear, I gave the girleen the Belle Sara fig. It acted as a nice icebreaker, since she turned out to be no small horse afficionado. Apparently she'd been riding since she was two, and they even had a couple Bella Sara books that had been bought the night before. Coincidence!

[livejournal.com profile] cairde_luis and I had known each other back in my college LARP days, when I was the beleagured prince of a major metropolis and she was pure anarchy. She eventually got married toa friend of mine, which ended a while ago. Of course, then you start doing some quick math in your head and you realize it's been over a decade since you've seen each other. We managed to reconnect via the magic of Facebook.

After lunch, I headed home, and stopped off at ACB for dinner, and ended up staying the night.

Captain Britain to end after Vampire Nation storyline.

That's sucky. The book was, IMHO, saddled with an un-necessary burden with starting off with a Secret Invasion crossover, after a mostly enjoyable lead in with the Wisdom mini-series.

On the other hand, this will now open a space for a "non-USA" comic in the MU. Maybe a decent relaunch of Alpha Fligth?

I said decent.

So, yeah. Weekend was spent on the road, mostly. This past weekend was CanGames, which is at this point the oldest gaming con in Canada.

I drove up to Ottawa on Friday. I left later than I'd planned because I was arguing for a while with UPS about getting Cynra's replacement phone delivered. Some of the quirks of the delivery: They could not deliver it to my work location in Mississauga. They could not leave it if I signed the form. It could be picked up (by me only) from the Hamilton depot.

Thankfully, one of our neighbours would be home in the afternoon, so UPS was directed to leave it there. I'm gonna be writing a letter about this.

So. Friday was my Buffy game, set in 17th Century France. I was the watcher. We fought demons. Or Hessians. It kind of blurred after that.

Saturday was a game of Savage Worlds with the same GM. He was a very good GM, in spite of being occasionally somewhat under-prepared. And we didn't use minis in the Savage Worlds game, which felt strange since I'd always viewed it as a minis heavy game.

Game three was Desolation with [livejournal.com profile] jkahane. It ended in a total TPK because of a riddle misinterpretation, which is a bit more Play Dirty than I'm used to.

After con I met up with Gabe and his gf for Shwarma dinner. I had no idea about how Bank Street was completely torn up for repairs. We made our way down to Shwarma King, and I got the platter, which turned out to be a wee bit beefier than I thought it would be.

I'd done some shopping that day, and had picked up a bottle of the Life Potion energy drink. Since I didn't have lunch (but did have a delicious breakfast of huevos rancheros) I thought I'd try it. Bad idea. Kept me up until almost two.

Got up and checked out of teh hotel, but got to the con a little late, and found out that the GM (who I will go on record as saying is a douchebag) had given my spot away. Sure, as is his choice, but Mother Fucker, it's Sunday morning 9 a.m. Some of us gotta check out of our hotels and were up a little late the previous evening. Even if it wasn't doing anything fun.

I spent the rest of the day kibbitzing with some dealers and some possible guests. One of the dealers told me the story of how he'd gotten a box of used D&D modules that included a copy of the mythical "Up the Garden Path".

Also got Final Flight of the Santiago from Mongoose. Been looking for that for a while.

Back to work tomorrow. Actually looking forward to it for a change.

Thanks a whole freakin' lot. I'll never hear the song the same way again.

I would like to say that appending "-fail" to anything that proves offensive or aggravating has broken through the wall of annoying and is travelling through the other side.

It has there joined "-gate" in the realm of annoying and somewhat lazy nomenclature.

Allow me to declare it Failfail.

Most of the music on Rush's Chronicles. What's New Pussycat. Most of Gordon by the BNL. The more happy than sad songs on JoCo Looks Back. Dare to be Stupid. A significant part of Weird Al's catalogue, now that I think of it.

Baby Got Back, Kung Fu Fighting, Private Dancer, and Turning Japanese. Purely for Karaoke purposes.

There's probably more. And if you hum a few bars, I can probably fake it.

A) It sucks quite a bit that you cannot get either Hogfather or Colour of Magic from Amazon.ca OR Chapters. Sure, you can get it from Amazon.com, but they've started charging for duties EVEN THOUGH THEY SHIP FROM MISSISSAUGA.

B) Okay, yeah, we had fun at Trek. But the Fridge moment for that movie (which, admittedly, didn't hit me until Cynra & I were having Timmy's and donuts ten hours later) was a doozy.

We also took in a film from Hot Docs Ron Mann retrospective, which was about the Twist (the link is to an interview of Ron Mann by Peter Gzowski, which will mean nothing to 90% of you).

I really need to learn more about music history. Disco and R&B and, admittedly, Rock is all various types of enigmas for me.
