Had a meeting yesterday with one of the local club heads who organizes events for GX. We did a lot of followup stuff, and I've realized I didn't send out emails thanking everyone who worked on the even this year. Gotta do that.

When the check came, we both lept on it, and neither would let go. We ended up throwing RPS for it. He threw paper, I threw rock. Ah, well.

I'm amazed by the sheer volume of Russian spam I'm getting at my hobbystar.com acct. It's rather impressive and frequent.

  • 20:24 Dear comic shops of the world; your website should include your store hours on the front page. This is surprisingly easy and useful. #
  • 01:21 Oh, man. The Blues Brothers is still completely awesome. #

I was up early today, Had a dentist's appointment to fix a cracked molar, which is always fun. It went quick, and was relatively painless. I still think I need a dental office that's more convenient; this place was a two minute walk when we lived in Mississauga.

We no longer live in Mississauga.

Then, I had to drive back to hit the Milton farmer's market so we could get a couple jars of chutney for Thanksgiving, some fresh meat and some fruit n' veg.

Cynra was gonna do it, but her purse was in my car. Of course it was.

Of course, when that was finished, we had to go get some stuff. She had a library check that we went to Costco to spend (Hardy boys books as well as a couple more contemporary kids books), and we also grabbed lunch there. Which remains an iffy idea at best. We did split our fall poutine there, even though it's a better dish when eaten outside on a cold day.

Oh, yeah: I bought this.

I may not need to leave the house ever again.

We had some early Christmas shopping to do for the grand-neices, and since I needed a new jacket for now and for winter, we did some Sears shopping. It went well, except they forgot to remove my security tag. Whoops! I guess I'll have to go back tomorrow to get that fixed.

We came home, and I did some yard work while Cynra tried to rest her cold away. She wasn't feeling any better when I was done, so we eschewed public company and stayed home.

The butcher at the farmer's market, btw, has these delightful apple harvest sausages. Delicious, I tell you. We had that along with some eggs for dinner, and I got to play some xbox; Bully is an enjoyable game.

So now, I'm up too late, watching The Blues Brothers. It continues to be an awesome, awesome film.

This week's Simpsons premiere made me realize that the ongoing Hulk/Thing feud is in fact a reflection of the sectarian unrest in Ireland.

You're Fucking Kidding, right? Seeming simplicity? You mean a "constant near paralyzing fear of nuclear annihilation"? You mean Two minutes to midnight? You mean DefCon 2? You mean hoping there's another Stanislave Petrov to save our fucking lives?

Seriously, this is retarded.

I would like to refer you all to read Gabe's article on punk rock and how it was driven by fear of nuclear annihilation.

God bless io9.com. If not for them, I never would have known about Battleawesome Awesomestar, an improv comedy show in TO based on Battlestar Galactica. It's at the Bad Dog Theatre for the next few weeks.

Going to it, of course, is another matter entirely for YHB. But for the TO based of y'all, that shouldn't be such a problem.

Wow. A non-sucky question (although one probably bought and paid for by DKNY).

My work's uniform is very lax. There's no shorts allowed (although men can wear capri pants), and no sandals, but other than that it's just clean and intact.

Which is good, because I've got all these damn t-shirts to wear.

Geez, these things will eat up tags like a mofo. I had to delete like five of them on this one alone!

I was admittedly a little enthusiastic about No Heroics when I initially heard about it.

Two episodes in, though, it's pretty lame. The first one had only one good scene, with SheForce and Time-Bomb's discussion of her romantic prospects being carried along pretty much solely by the actors' own presence, and the now immortal "Handjob and a pizza" hand gestures.

The second episode was slightly better, which isn't so impressive considering how flat the first one fell. We learned some background of some of the characters (She-Force and Electroclash used to be partners), The Hotness continued to be stymied by Excelsor, and TimeBomb got a blowjob in a bathroom stall.

The Hotness managed to be a little sympathetic instead of just completely pathetic, although that role in this episode seemed to be taken up by the fanclub. Oh, that was kind of sad.

I guess it's a side effect of actually having read the source material, much like with Heroes. "Hey, look," they say, "superheroes can be dicks! Wow, eh?" Unaware of most of what came out in the '90s, or the Ultimate line, or even Superdickery.com.

I honestly want to see what happens when Monkeythunder uses his powers, but that many monkeys would probably double their budget.

William Pitt, the Earl of Chatham! Known as Pitt the Elder, father of future prime minister Pitt the Younger! He guided England through the tumult of the Seven Years War, and he chose Wolfe to launch the attack on Quebec that would lead to breaking France's hold on the New World! If you live in Pittsburgh (God save you), your town was named after him.

Henry Viscount, Lord Palmerston led England to the height of her powers. During his tenure as PM, it could truly be said that the sun did not set on the British Empire. He secularized divorce, fought the Fenians, and after Union aggression against British interests, supported the Confederacy during the American Civil War.

Great men, who may have worn powdered wigs! But only one of them can be declared England's Greatest PM!

Who shall it be? Only You Can Make That Call!

I also got a copy of the Marvel Encyclopedia for The Incredible Hulk and... Wow. This is such a piece of shit. I don't know how good the info is, because the authorial voice just makes me want to turn green and start smashing shit. Man. I wasted five bucks on this piece of shit?

Seriously: I want this not-good-enough-to-burn piece of crap out of my house. Anyone wanna trade?

The Spider-Man one is readable so far, so that's good. I also got Making Money because it was only seven bucks, as well as Spider-Woman Origin for another five, but that's a Bendis book, so it may suck, too.

Ah, man. One for four is a mediocre average in baseball. It sucks for a BMV trip.

Went to Word on the Street w/ Cynra. She went library shopping using the proceeds from her Scholastic book sale this week. I, personally, suggested a couple Sumo chairs for the library, but no go.

I had to split early, leaving Cynra with [livejournal.com profile] redeem147. Sunny & I drove up to Pixelbarrel world HQ to help film an ELoE application video (mine, apparently).

Afterwards, I picked up Cynra, [livejournal.com profile] redeem147, and little brother Uday and we headed to Pizza Pide for some traditional Turkish pizza. Good stuff.

Oh, yeah: game got back into session this past Thursday. The group's meetings are a bit abbreviated for a standard D&D game. It tends to work better when we play something that doesn't have the standard expectation for two or three combats per session.

In addition, the roti this week was fucking SUBLIME. Holy cow. It was as close to perfection as Caribbean fast food gets.
