On the phone they said something like, 'this isn't about being nice.'"

I presume many of you have seen the fairly impressive short film that made W.E. orgasm in his underoos, but if you haven't here it is:

The Star did an article about the creators of the piece this past weekend, describing why they put it together and the effect it's had on their careers.

They're scouting locations in Pennsylvania for part II, and they're working on a WW II film as well.

A promo for the Space channel. It was on during BSG tonight, which felt odd. Strange, strange time to start tossing backstory at people.

Remember how after Iron Man split the skies Marvel came out and had this ludicrous movie production schedule that would see an IM sequel, and movies about Thor, Captain America & an Avengers film all out in three years?

Yeah, I think they've realized they may have bitten off more than they can chew.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Marvel will delay the Branagh helmed Thor and The Avengers by a year each. Thor will be out in 2011, and The Avengers will be out in 2012.

Iron Man 2 will still be coming out next year, with Scarlett Johansson starring as the Black Widow. We're also getting another Spider-Man movie in 2011.

Missing from all this is the Captain America movie, which was supposed to come out Victoria Day weekend prior to The Avengers, and would presumably have a cliffhanger ending that would lead into it.

Sam Jackson recently got signed to a nine picture deal with Marvel studios, which will presumably get him at least a cameo in most of these films as well as leading roles in Avengers & a theoretical SHIELD movie.

I regret not asking Wright if he had anything to say about the Ant-Man film.

Marvel has yet to offer any guarantees that the films will not molest the audience, sexually or otherwise.

So, last night I went downtown, ostensibly to hang with [livejournal.com profile] kinra, but also to do some anniversary present shopping.

One advantage of being married to a huge geek? EVERY year's a paper anniversary!

So, after rummaging through no less than four sections looking for a copy of Old Freaking Possum Where The Hell Is That Damn Book About Cats?, we gave in and I got her a book about Torchwood and the Onion's Our Dumb Century.

Whee! Shopping is fun, where fun=torment.

We grabbed some dinner at Salad King, which is an awesome Thai place that doesn't sound like it will be as tasty as it is. We checked out 401, where I showed [livejournal.com profile] kinra my good Dragon article. It still feels awesome on occasion.

So, yeah. I've wrapped her books up in a big picture of Steven McHattie screaming, and will get them to her tonight. Huzzah for TBG!

Over on Hardcorenerdity.com, Watchmen Scribe Hayter pleads with Watchmen fans who did not hate to movie to make second week's BO strong.

It reads strangely. He tries to come across as a man of the (geeky) peoples, as well as a hardcore creative dude.

He also uses a strange metaphor for how the movie should make you feel.

All this time, you’ve been waiting for a director who was going to hit you in the face with this story. To just crack you in the jaw, and then bend you over the pool table with this story.

Yeah, but when George Lucas did it he told me he loved me.

Rorshach's Diary: The Early Years.
"Coach showed up drunk today. Obvious signs of moral weakness. He lives with another man, very fastidious. Possibly homosexual. Must investigate further."

A lot of people have talked about the film, and opinions range from the Very enthusiastic to the slightly less so.
Visually, I think they did a bang up job recreating the book's look, which is I suppose one of the advantages of adapting a hyper-detailled graphic novel. Much like a fantasy epic that's been envisioned by the Brothers Hildebrandt.

I may have a few spoilers in here )

Five things

[livejournal.com profile] canker_canison started this. I'm gonna finish it.

1. Game Brain

I have, on the occasion, been known to play a game or two. Todd & I have only gotten to play once, but I hope to get that rectified. I wish I could play more of everything, personally, but there's only so many hours in a day and days in a week.

2. Got 'tude?

I am shocked, SHOCKED at this suggestion. Seriously, me? I'm a big 'ol teddy bear. Who has the strength of his convictions. And a wicked sense of humour.

3. Go Team Venture!

Ah, man, I LOVE the Venture Brothers. I've emailled Teletoon repeatedly haranguing them for not carrying series three. I mean, seriously. This is the 21st century. If you want something to be seen, particularly something that appeals to Internet Aware People with no stake in protecting IP rights, you have to make sure they can get it.

My friend Badass recommended it to me originally, and it took me a while to track it down, but ever since it was love at first sight. I even bought the T-Shirt of the Week package, which I doubt I'll ever do again unless the dollar goes back to par.

4. Knower of Geeky Knowledge

Guilty. I absorb pointless knowledge like a sponge (and, I will remind you, I was the Southontario-B5 Trivia champion for 1998). Sure, I've got gaps (like comics from the '90s, which I think is a lot like missing knowledge about Cthulhu's cooking: Some knowledge is too horrible to have), but what I know I like to think I know fairly well.

I miss having regular Trivia nights. Sigh. If any of you ever want, I love Scene It! Love it so much. That's my cuddle little xbox trivia game, yes it is.

5. Poll Man

LJ gives me power, and when I get power, I use it.
