Well, that was "fun"
Feb. 6th, 2008 09:26 amFor a value of fun that is negative.
The drive in went mostly okay. The road was stupid icy but I made it in okay.
Until I hit the Hurontario ramp. It hadn't seen the business end of a plow yet, so it was just two big ice ruts in the middle of some snow.
Supercar skidded right off the road onto the (thankfully) very broad shoulder.
I tried to drive back on but it was just kicking up snow, so I got out to try kicking some snow away from the tires. I really need a collapsible shovel for situations like that; I also got caught in a snowbank on my way out of my FLCS last week.
Anyway, I kicked the snow, and tried again. Supercar MOVED, but it didn't drive. I rocked it a bit, and nothing. Before I could get out and do some more kicking (really, shovel, gotta get one) a red F250 pulled up behind me, and two guys got out.
Without a word, they pushed me right onto the road and I was on my way.
So, yeah, right now I'd like to send thanks into the ether to them (I got to say thanks to them at the Brittania intersection later).

Hurry! Hurry hard!
Date: 2008-02-06 03:02 pm (UTC)I was all "Hey Chris, is that you doing that?"
It ended up in half an hour of hot work with a half-section of troops, pushing the vehicle free again and again and stepping clear as it slowly slid further down the gentle slope into the next snow-bank with all the languid grace (and traction) of a curling rock.
*Because 2-wheel drive really isn't.

Date: 2008-02-06 07:48 pm (UTC)Did you go around that particular slope, or eventually make it up?
Re: Hurry! Hurry hard!
Date: 2008-02-06 10:18 pm (UTC)We realized that it could be driven up in the dark, but when the sun was out its heat created a slick layer on top of the ice that could not be navigated across safely.
So we made it up that hill. Just not during the day.

Date: 2008-02-07 02:58 am (UTC)I had a slushy and slippery drive too and fro work today too (thank god I had no home visits) that added an extra hour to my driving day.
