Between [livejournal.com profile] maliszew last summer, and [livejournal.com profile] pyat and [livejournal.com profile] nottheterritory this month, I regret throwing out my Cubans.

Cause there ain't nothing that calls for orally ingesting carcinogens like a new baby!

I appreciate the sentiment -- I mean this sincerely, believe it or not -- but, if you had wished to celebrate my son's birth with a cancer log, I'd hope you'd choose something anti-Communist. Just humor me, OK? :)

The birth of my first child would be a suitable occasion to relax my Salavationist anti-tobacco creed - possibly the only time in my life I would accept and smoke a cigar. Much like I consented to drink champagne on New Year's Eve 1999.

So, yes, it was a a shame. :-)

And I don't mind Commie cigars. :-) Cuba is a funny, happy, dictatorship!

We sure sucked the fun out of that in record time. :-)

Bitterguy: My friends! Have cigars!
Maliszew: Cuban?? Egad, man, those are made by hobbled grandmothers in the heart of a volcano!
Pyat: Cigars? Those are the devil's nipples!

Let me add to it, then--

Elissa: Oh my lord, those things stink to high heaven.

My husband loves them, though, so he'd probably happily smoke mine. A baby? Many happy sentiments. :)

Thanks!

Today is the due date. No sign of baby yet.

"Usul, we have baby sign the likes of which not even GOD has seen."

That is my favorite line from Lynch's Dune. Congratulations, that just rocked hardcore. :)

re Babysign: Oh yeah. Been there. Hope that your children are not like mine; in the wee hours of the morning of the first checkup I would've needed because of baby-lateness, my daughter decided that Today Is The Day. (All went well aside from that, though.)

Only time I ever had a cigar was my cousin's bachelor party - it was... interesting. It's hard to know what to do with them - you don't really want to put them down or drink or eat anything much while holding so you just end up racing through it.

Still though - I'd have liked the commie cigars - in fact the cigar makers were a leading force in the Communist revolution in Cuba.

Although actually I suppose, if anything, I should be trying to track down the Spanish cigars made by the company my great-grandfather and his brothers started.
