There was talk about superhero radio plays, and I found Graphicaudio's DC comics adaptations online today. They've got Infinite Crisis (meh) and 52 done, which looks kind of neat.
I thought about giving that a whirl, but their tech specs are HIGHLY annoying -- the download service is all .wma files, which means if you're a Mac user, you'd have to have audio conversion software to change them to .mp3. Which I do, so that's irritating but not impossible, BUT in order to even activate the stuff (pay for it, in other words), you have to use WinAmp to open a proprietary usage file. That's asinine. Why not just have a direct .mp3 download service, like a million other pay-audio sites use? That way any platform can get the stuff. So, fuck them, basically.
The download system sounds particularly annoying. Apparently you can find the cds at truck stops.
Which is, I'll admit, probably the least useful information anywhere, but that's how someone described the company: "It seems that GraphicAudio only sells their stuff on-line and at truck stops."
And GraphicAudio doesn't exactly do radio plays. They do what's being called "enhanced audio books." Which means that they do a complete, unabridged reading of the BOOK (with a narrator saying all the "He said," lines as well) with a full cast, sound effects and music.
I tried listening to the Infinite Crisis, but to me, a super hero audio book (enhanced or not) isn't the same as a full cast dramatization.
I can get the full files to you as mp3's if you really really want, just let me know.
