Thanks, btw
Oct. 28th, 2007 09:03 pmThanks to everyone who provided suggestions RE: lab coats. I was hoping that Guelphs VV would have some, what with the university, but that didn't work. We ended up ditching the Bunsen Honeydew & Beaker costume idea and just went as Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent. I was Ford.
We had some people in for a little Halloween Do. Watched Blink and Ghostwatch, and Slither.
Ghostwatch didn't work too well with the crowd. I suppose watching it with a group of people is different than the first time, just me and the wife in the dark house hiding under the covers.
All in all, though, it was fun. Dinner included some delicious stuff from

Date: 2007-10-29 12:54 pm (UTC)Well I liked it! I mean it had it's share of flaws and there were certainly some unintentionally funny bits but, einh, what doesn't? And I thought it was a quite neat idea, and quite nicely done.

Date: 2007-10-29 03:24 pm (UTC)The thing is, when you suspect you're getting conned, there is a part of you that's trying to sort of protect yourself from being taken for a ride - that's looking for flaws in the whole. I'm pretty sure the doctor never suspended my disbelief (not that she was a bad actress, she was quite good, but she just... that's not what TV experts are like - ironically, the guy we recognized as an actor did a _much_ better job of being a Scientist-On-TV).
But once I got over the feeling that I was being conned, I could really get into the clever piece of theatre I was watching - and the use of the different cameras (the 'spy cameras', the enforced passivity in the way we had to watch it, the phone calls, etc), the editing, the characterization, the creeping sense of the story disintegrating, etc. It was just a bunch of very clever inputs put together very well. There were holes in the script and poor performances sure, but you know - I watched Star Trek for years ;)

Date: 2007-10-30 02:11 pm (UTC)It's not a huge complaint really, it's more just that... well you and Cindy had kind of projected that Things Were Not As They Seemed and so I was kind of waiting for the gimmick and her performance just kept telling me "this is not really live TV".
Anyway, not a big complaint, just an observation.
