Let's bring it back down to earth today, gentle readers, but not too much. Instead of mighty spheres clashing in the skies, we find ourselves in a little sliver of surburbia.

In the fall of '64, ABC and CBS showed the world the possibilities inherent in parallel development. Both of them launched sitcoms based around horrific inhabitants of suburbia.

The TIffany Network featured The Munsters. The Munsters were an amalgam of the Universal monsters, ensconced in suburbia (1313 Mockingbird Lane) with a pet dragon named Spot. Herman and Lily, Grampa, and Eddie and Marilyn have thrilled millions over the years, and grown into a force to be reckoned with in pop culture (and far left politics; well, Grandpa at least ).

ABC launched The Addams Family. Based on the macabre cartoons of Charles 'Chas' Addams, the Addams were a ookier family. Parents Gomez & Morticia raised children Pugsley and Wednesday with help from Grandmama, cousin Itt and Uncle Fester (and handyman Thing).

Both of these families, the ultimate in the wacky neighbours, have gone onto success in tv, film, and esoteric licenses (God, I'd kill for a copy of the Addams Family pinball game). But in the end, only one can arise triumphant in the arena of Hoo'd Win!

The Addams Family is a brilliant television series far beyond its time. The Munsters - is not.

No love for Herman yet.

I have to admit, as a youth I loved their "dragster", although I was always a bigger fan of Gomez and Morticia.

Are we voting on which was the better show, better concept, or which would win if the two families were pitted together in a fight to the death?

The Munsters did have cooler cars at least.

If you say it three times, it appears in the mirror.

The Addams Family rules.

This is even a question?

Voting for the Munsters over the Addams Family should be sufficient cause for LJ to suspend someone's journal. :-P

Not by sixties standards!

George Barris ruled!

Chas. Addams is like unto a god to me. No contest here.

The Addams Family, for the theme song alone should get it.

Both the show and the movies were better, and Morticia was hot!

I do believe there is a clear winner here.

Despite my love for Al Lewis, there's really only one way to vote.

The Munsters blow. The only good thing that ever came out of that show was a punk rock song sung by the little kid (now, of course, all grown up) about how he still lives with his parents and won't get a job.

My goodness. I would've guessed it to be at least closer than this. I thought it was a good match up when you posted it.

Such is not the case, apparently.

Me three. In fact, I watched a lot more Munsters, but the Pinball is what pushed it over the edge for me...

"IT'S COUSIN IT!"

"WELL PLAYED, THING."

Wait a minute, I thought you meant in hand to hand combat. If you mean popularity in the modern tv viewer audience then I'd go with the Addams Family because they were cooler, but the Munsters just seem like they'd be dirtier fighters somehow. Especially Grandpa.

Traditionally, Hoo'd win is a vote based on whatever comparison you see fit, just so long as the one you're voting for is a positive vote.

Least, that's how TBG always presented it.
