It's the Weekend Update!
Sep. 10th, 2007 01:40 pmBusy weekend this past. Saturday was, of course,
mr_weasel's wedding, which was huzzah all about. The ceremony was in a small church near College, and was conducted by what appeared to be a 40K Inquisitor of some kind*. It was a nice ceremony, although the mythical "cops won't give you a ticket if you're parked outside a church where there's a wedding" law is false. Just a heads up.
Cynra & I picked up the wedding present at William Ashley at Manulife centre (WA's Motto: "Jesus! Be careful with that!"). They have a water bar, where you can get Perrier and drop in little pieces of fruit to make it taste like something other than the flatulence of a French mountain. Quite nice.
Afterwards we hopped over to Indigo to get a card (if you buy a card after the wedding, but before the reception, you can make sure it complements the bride's dress. No, I don't know how it works) and a slice of poppyseed cake from Starbux in order to ward off me collapsing into a heap of hunger and exhaustion. I also bought the last Dragon, and managed to keep from breaking down weeping. Curse you, WotC! I didn't get the last Dungeon, but probably will, IF someone can confirm that "Kill Bargle" is a solo adventure.
We made our way out to Fantasy Farm (Motto: "Watch the Unicorm Poop!") for the reception, and let me tell you, those Horse Dovers were sweet. Seriously, fried cheese is the greatest thing EVER. Although I'm sure after the fifth person said "just leave the tray" the servers began to tire of us.
Dinner followed, and Cynra did her best to make sure that the Vegan at our table (Motto:"I ate before I came here") got something to eat. Afterwards, there was dancing. TBG is once again grateful for House of Pain for, even though they suck, writing a song that can be danced to by pretty much just hopping.
Cheers to the DJ for keeping the floor hopping all night! Jeers for not playing the Time Warp! I would like to confirm that I am truly the Lord of the Dance, fuck Michael Flatley.
We left just after the sandwiches and coffee were rolled out, and made our way home.
Sunday was our day at the TIFF. Cynra had booked us a couple tickets to the Gala for The Last Lear, an Indian art film. It was an interesting film, and thankfully lacked the self-indulgence you usually find in films about film. Since it was a gala, there was an introductory bit by Cameron Bailey, and speaking by the director and the leads, including Indian Regis Philben Amitabh Bachchan.
He gives good speech.
His portions of the film are the strongest ones; when he does a selection from Shakespeare he does a really good job.
* The bonus to being seated at the Gamer's table is that we made jokes about this ALL NIGHT. But the robes the priest had on made me wonder if she should have a Space Marine escort.

Date: 2007-09-10 06:58 pm (UTC)Sorry, but I'm pretty sure it's set for the standard 3.X party of four. Having never seen the original (I started with AD&D), I can't compare it, but I believe it's mentioned that the author stuck to the same monsters featured in the Red Box. All in all, a good issue.
Khaaaaaaan!
Date: 2007-09-10 08:00 pm (UTC)And I look forward to fighting the damn rust monster again.
