Earth of Invalidated Crisis'

thebitterguyI was talking to a friend of mine regarding the recent Sinestro Corps storyline that started in the eponymous special and has started to continue in Green Lantern Corps and Green Lantern.
One of the big reveals of the SC special was that the Sinestro Corp is being masterminded by the Anti-Monitor, who was the archvillain behind Crisis on Infinite Earths. Now, the AM was destroyed in the final pages of CoIE (although by the end it was a bit of a "Why! Won't! You! Die!" situation). My friend Chris remarked that it seemed like they were just reversing Crisis.
The odd part is that it seems like the past 22 years have been one long reversal of CoIE. I mean, as of last check: Monitor, alive (and multiplying); Anti-Monitor, Alive; Multiple Earths, reinstated; Supergirl, not dead; Barry Allen, I have no idea, but I'll bet he's made an appearance or two.
Everything of pretty much any significance has been reversed. Even Morrison brought the CSA back (did he have Power Ring in that group? How does he fit into the Weaponers of Qward/Anti-Matter Universe paradigm? Am I too massive a geek to contemplate for asking?).
Crisis is turning into something like the Superman Red and Superman Blue stories, or the Batmen of the World ones. Weird, how the story that was supposed to clean up continuity (proof of failure? Hawkman) is now a disposed piece of continuity itself.

I think of the original Crisis as DC's "New Coke Moment." It just took them twenty plus years to realize it.
But not really, if you factor in Zero Hour and Hypertime and the other stuff along the way that tried somewhat half-heartedly to restore the multiverse. The difference this time is that DC's editorial policy seems to be completely behind it.

Date: 2007-07-12 10:42 pm (UTC)Well, I'm not sure I'd agree the entire past 22 years has been a reversal - they did make an effort for a few, and most of the examples you cite are in the past 5 years, aren't they?
But yeah, I thought it was pretty much given that the real multiverse, not just this 52-Earth half-assed version, is coming back. I thought that's what the Countdown was counting down to - Final Crisis or whatever next year's big event is.

Date: 2007-07-13 03:36 pm (UTC)The truth of the matter is that DC screwed up big-time and have been trying to "correct" the mistakes ever since. Sad, but true. Goddess alone knows how they're going to resolve the whole current mess they have going on with COUNTDOWN and the lead-up to Final Crisis or whatever they will call it, but I don't believe for a minute there are going to be more than 52 Earths. And I sure don't believe that it's going to be a Multiverse as we remember it.
