Dear People of Australia:
Jun. 27th, 2007 11:33 pmHey. I understand you are currently beginning your winter season, right?
What's it like down there? Temperature, precipitation, humidity, etc?

Date: 2007-06-28 03:51 am (UTC)The weather boffins are saying that our El Nino season is over and we might be headed for a period of La Nina. That's bringing heavy rains to many parts of the country.
So, where there had been droughts and water restrictions, there's now flooding in some areas :(
And on top of that, there's a 40,000 tonne bulk carrier aground on my favourite beach in my old home town...
Where I live these days, in Canberra, it's cold and wet at the moment. It hasn't been above 10C all week. There was snow on the mountains to the west of the city, and many areas around the city have had snowfalls recently (which is more than we've had in several years)
Why do you ask?

Date: 2007-06-28 05:05 am (UTC)we've had 300mm of rain this month and it hasn't rained as much here as elsewhere (even though its rained almost every day this month). the humidity today is between 85% and 100% and there is wind at 20km/hr . Its fairly tame compared to what it was a week or so ago. We had cyclonic wind, torrential rain etc.
In other parts of the state its flooding in a lot of places that for the past several years have been drought declared. In... goulburn, I think, they were contemplating trucking in water from elsewhere, but now its flooding.

I've heard about the drought conditions, but didn't know there was flooding now. Never rains but it pours.

Date: 2007-06-28 09:44 pm (UTC)In the snowy mountains at places like thredbo and jindabyne and at a place called charlottes pass it snows all winter... they have a ski season there. (its minus 1.8C there at the moment) There is a ski season somewhere in victoria too.. In certain parts of tasmania it snows for a good part of winter too.
yeah the drought thing is totally weird. these days its all somewhat extreme weather. people are either battling bush fires (and drought) because its so hot and dry, getting flooded because its so wet, or freezing from the snow. they cant win! lol
