Lost, The Next Day.

Or possibly, several days later. Months? Years?

Amusingly enough, Cynra actually said during the opening of the show "this is before, right?" YHB had spoiled himself rotten before the broadcast.

So, the Jack-Back ended up being a Jack-Forward, and we see that Jack & Kate do make it off the island. This does seem to indicate that Henry's forecast of doom does not come to pass. I love how Jack was so high on baby blues he referred to his old man in the present tense.

So, seeing the future does leave a truckload of questions. Like why Kate isn't behind bars, or whose funeral Jack attended, or why Jack's still practicing medicine when he's a basket case.

On the Island, we get to see the trek up the hill, Locke digs his way out of a shallow grave (well, climbs his way out of a deep hole) after seeing Walt (who's gotten a lot bigger considering it's, what, two weeks since he & Michael left the island?), and then tosses a knife into the back of Naomi's neck, which would be unforgiveable if it weren't for the fact that it turns out she's been lying very, very heavily since she landed. Still doesn't seem to justify sticking a knife into her neck. Of course, then he chickens out and DOESN'T put a round into Jack.

Feh.

A strong assumption is that Naomi is (well, was) working for Penny's old man, since she had a copy of the picture, unless Old Man Widmore is passing them around to the guys at the Hanso Foundation. And I'm gonna talk about the Hanso guys a lot at the end of this.

Charlie & Desmond have adventures in the underwater hatch, and Mikhail is apparently unkillable. Will the grenade do the trick? Who knows. You do have to wonder why Charlie didn't just get out of the tiny room and lock the door behind him, or just get out and grab a scuba tank and swim out with Desmond. Heroic, yes. Stupid, too.

The end, of course, seems to indicate that they'll be rescued, but we'll need to wait 260 days to find that out. Just because the episode ends with jack going "Can you rescue us?" and the radio voice going "Sure!" doesn't mean it'll go off that smoothly.

Okay, Dharma/Hanso/etc:

They still need to clarify who is doing what on the island. Okay, so Benry took out the Dharma Initiative people on the island with the help of the Others/Hostiles/Initial Inhabitants (including a very well preserved Nestor Carbonell, and how grateful do you think he is for not having to affect an outrageous accent?). So, the Dharma Initiative has to know their entire group is dead, right? I can't see Ben putting around a story to cover that up.

It's safe to assume all the projects are abandoned as themselved, instead being used for other purposes (such as the Pearl being used for surveillance by Ben and Juliette), with the exception of the Swan. And, while Ben did tell Locke that he didn't reset the Swan's timer, he obviously did, what with the lack of large scale magnetic disruption.

Ben is still pursuing his own projects, including the pregnancy project and God knows what else.

BUT. Someone is still dropping Dharma branded food supplies on a semi regular basis. And apparently they're sending in appliances. And how did Clancy Brown's CIA agent make his way onto the island? Did he just, like so many others, find his way there, or was he brought there?

We can assume that the various members of the Hanso Foundation are still active, but as for agendas and actions, it's all muddled and mysterious.

Kelvin said last season that he volunteered for the job with the Dharma Initiative.

On the other hand, if Jack's father is being correctly referred to in the present tense and has somehow secured a new position at the hospital during the flash-forward, that might be enough to have driven Jack to pill abuse.

but didn't desmond say to charlie that for everyone to be rescued, he had to die? so maybe once he realised that desmonds flashy was coming true he remembered that and decided that he was going to sacrifice himself so that claire would be rescued.

Desmond was heading into the room to see the transmission from Penny. Charlie slammed the door to keep both Desmond out and the water in (so the station wouldn't flood and drown Desmond). I don't think he had the time or the ability to do that and get out himself. He had no oars to bonk Desmond with.

For some reason, being stoned made Jack inclined to wear an obviously fake beard. Drugs are so wacky.

Concerning the Jack forward, though I don't get it I'm glad to see it happen. While watching over the last season I'm starting to get annoyed by the flashbacks. How old are these characters!

I saw Jack and thought "Seriously, when between finishing med school and getting lost on the island did he have enough time to fix a girls back, get married to her, lose her to another man, turn his father in for working while intoxicated, go to Australia and find him, spend some time in Thailand or wherever, and get hooked and presumably get over Oxycontin. And Oxycontin is a newly addictive drug, he should be popping Xanax!" Of course that all went through my mind very quickly! I don't even care that I'm more confused about the flash forward, cause at least it was believable, as opposed to another flash back.

I wondered the same thing. But I guess when you have to get rid of someone, you gotta do it the tear-jerker way.

I overheard my co-workers saying Thursday that they were worried where the show was going since the people are off the island.
I wanted to slap this shit out of them. Also, they were trying to figure out why Jack never said anything about knowing Kate from his PAST.
People are so damned retarded.
