MCCC was fun. Queen Pixel and redeem147 got here around 8:30, and we drove down. Met up with HobbyBoss at the border to get a pass off of him.

Cynra got a few autographs, and I got a copy of Dreaming Cities, Ex Machina, and the issues of Rom and Marvel Two in One where Alpha Flight appeared for about $.66 each.

Also got the LEs for Walter Langowski, Talisman, and the Beaubier twins for $4 each.

Afterwards it was off to BD's Mongolian Grill, where I got my $1.50 worth.

Their freakin' desserts are terrifying. TERRIFYING.

I finally read "Omega Flight."

Good concept, with anti-registration types fleeing to Canada. But everything else is lame, and Sasquatch getting his ass handed to him by the Wrecking Crew (and they've been homicidal since when?) annoys the piss out of me. A guy who can stop a jet from taking off with his bare hands can't beat up a bunch of second-stringers? Spare me.

Actually the wrecking crew are pretty inconsistently written. They've been loser second-stringers, and they've been major players that can hold their own against the likes of the Avengers, She-Hulk or Thor. And I've definitely seen them showcased as pretty homicidal as well.
So, not having read Omega Flight, it doesn't sound too inconsistent with at least some of their past appearances, something that can't be said for about 75% of Civil War.

Not that Civil War should be the bar to aspire to of course.

Well, I know they were originally Thor villains, so that presumes at least a modicum of power.

I guess we just chalk it up to the magic of Marvel editors.

Well, the WC did almost beat Hercules to death when the MoE took over Avengers Mansion, so that's not out of character.

I think they've got a slight edge in raw power on him, since they're regulars in Thor's rogues gallery.

They're not an inspiring choice for the first (or possibly only) set of villains for the book.

I guess...but it just seems vaguely wrong to me somehow. The writing couldn't sell the beating, I guess.

I also wonder why Canada didn't simply block immigration based on muscle mass. Most of the bad guys are bodybuilders; shouldn't be hard to spot THEM.

I loved how the border guards in 616 apparently have assault weapons. They don't even have pistols in the real world.

I noticed that. They also seem to have a license to kill; things are pretty fucking drastic in the 616.
