A list of my weekly comics pulls.

She Hulk: but don't ask me why. It's suffering from some of the same malaise that the rest of the MU has because of Civil War.
X-Men: only because it's written by Joss Whedon
Astro City; although if it didn't come out on a 'we'll get around to it eventually' schedule I'd drop singles and get the trades
52: almost done, and I can't believe I hung it for the whole thing. Will probably get Countdown as well.
Wisdom: Miniseries about Pete WIsdom, head of MI-13, UK Supernatural Intelligence dept.
Buffy Season 8: For my wife, mostly.
Spider-Man: just because it's written by Straczynski, although I've managed to miss most of his other stuff without complaint.
The Spirit: Darwyn Cooke's resurrection of the classic Eisner charcter, even though it's really my first exposure to him. The Spirit, that is. I've read Cooke's stuff before.
Nextwave: I'd be reading it regularly if, you know, they hadn't cancelled it.
Planetary: buy via trade, so I am stuck in the 4 year gap between tpbs for this line. It's neat, but not very deep.
Omega Flight: The hair shirt of Canadian Comics Fans

Can't think of anything else I get regularly, although there are probably a few things.

The Spirit, that is.

You may not be surprised to learn that I have a complete set (to date) of all the DC Archive hardback reprints of Eisner's original run... (yes, I do appear to be clearly insane)

I've been holding off on Cooke's run for the trades.

I'm diggin' on the new Buffy books, as they seem thankfully spared of the uber-gravitas that plagued the series its' final few years. And 52 is ending on a very strong note, I think.

I hadn't heard of this. Is it any good?

Actually, from what I've read of Eisner and Co. (he had several collaborators on the strip, although he was the overall creative force), Cooke's is actually quite good. He updates the material, bringing in modern-day politics (not to mention soy) and updating the original character while staying true to the...well, y'know...of the originals. If there's a key flaw, it's that you're not going to get quite as much out of it unless you're familiar with the original work; there's plenty of nods and gags.

It's not QUITE as good as the best of Eisner's work, but then Cooke's not inventing a medium like Eisner was...and considering how easily DC could have shat all over this property, it's a book I'm glad to read.

I actually LIKED it this week - and we see the return of Starfire and Booster Gold!
I'll be out of town next week and will not get to read 52 #52 until I return. Blah!
