So, yeah, everyone should know by now that Dragon & Dungeon will no longer be in publication as of this fall. Know what that means? By 2011, [livejournal.com profile] mr_weasel will be caught up!

Ha, I kid.

It's annoying, primarily because Dragon was the first periodical to ever exact commercer with me (I don't recall what I got for those articles; I probably should have photocopied the checks) and that is something I'll always be proud of.

Everyone has different feelings about it, but here's my metaphor: It's like myneighbourhood bar is closing down. Sure, it's had a bunch of different owners, and sometimes I just didn't go there too frequently(like when they became a wine bar), but it was always there.

Dragon was also the last place to get any Al-Qadim material. Shame, that.

The thing about the state of gaming these days though, is that anyone who would once have submitted an article to Dragon or Dungeon, having created something interesting, will now just get it published by a game company, using the open license. The magazines must be starved for content, and that brings quality way down. All I read for the last while was the comics, and those are online anyways.
