So, the NHL, in a desperate attempt to appeal to the wrong kind of people (Americans) is having a bunch of celebrities blog about the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Included in that number is none other than Mr. Angel Bones himels, David Boreanaz.

I always figured him for a Sabres fan, what with the Buffalo connection.

We Amerikaners aren't nearly reputable enough to be Hockey fans...

Hey, man, I've been to Montreal. It's like Texas, only the women are hotter (it's a well-kept secret that all Texans do not actually speak English as a first language, but rather French.)

Where, in Texas or Quebec? :-)

French? That doesn't sound any of the parts of Texas I've been to or lived in. Spanglish, now... that'd be a whole 'nother story.

You only THINK it's Spanglish. Really, it's just that all Texans may speak French, but it's with a very thick accent.

One of the six flags over Texas was, after all, that of France.

Didn't France actually come first (in that they were the first to colonize)?

I believe that's correct in terms of settlement, but Spain is the first nation to have flown its flag over what is now Texas.

I'll tell you this much: one time I went to the fights and a hockey game broke out.

I take offence to that! Being a good Minnesotan who played high school hockey in Vermont hockey is in my blood I also take offence on behalf of residents of North Dakota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. ;-)

But even as a die hard hockey fan, I have never been sold on the NHL. After it stabbed me and other Minnesotans in the back by moving the North Stars to Dallas followed by Winnipeg, Hartford and Quebec I lost interest. It's always been about college hockey anyway. I'd pay $40 any day to see the University of Minnesota play, but for the Wild? Unlikely.

The NHL really needs to just move back up North, cut its losses and accept that it'll always be a sport for those of us where the lakes freeze 5 months out of the year.

Assuming that the lakes keep freezing up here, of course...which isn't the given it used to be. Most frightening. More so than a lot of what Mr. Boreanaz' characters seemed to go up against.

Speaking as a hockey fan myself, I've long felt that Minnesotans are entitled by historical fact to believe themselves stabbed in the back over the North Stars. If ever a region of the USA is hockey country, Minnesota's it.

My slightly amusing personal anecdote:

When Norm Green, owner of the North Stars, decided to ship off to Texas, he wanted to take everything North Stars-related with him including the boards, nets, scoreboard and basically everything else portable from the arena. The State of Minnesota said no and took him to court. My Dad happened to be the judge assigned to the hearing. He basically decreed that Norm Green can fuck himself and is entitled to none of the non-branded paraphenalia. He said it was the most enjoyable ruling he ever ahd to make. It was a fun time. The papers had a good time with it.

OK, so I just discovered that L'il Jon has an NHL Blog (http://fans.nhl.com/lil'_jon/home/). This is too hilarious.

If they ever tried to move any of the major Canadian Hockey Clubs. Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadians, Ottawa Senators, Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames. You would see a riot like the Richard Riots of March 17, 1955. Canadians don't get up in arms over much, but we take our Hockey very seriously.

I did indeed. Serial Killers would run amuck, I tell you, amuck.

Ottawa rocked last night. 6 - 3, They shut the Penguins down hard.

I'll give you Toronto and Montreal, but Winnipeg and Quebec in the late 80s weren't on the same level as Vancouver or Calgary? And Ottowa is a 1990s re-invention.

But the real question is, when are they going to bring back the Kenora Thistles?!

Hey, you be watching the Ottawa talk, my home team your talking about. Doing very well I might add. As for Quebec and Winnipeg, their was a big hue and cry over those moves. Just not the levels you would see for Montreal or Toronto. Two of the original six teams.
Ottawa Sens on the way to a Stanley Cup.

I've got nothing but love for Ottawa. They were robbed when the Sens left the first time!
