The City Desk is a neat humour blog about a fictional newspaper in a fictional city. Today's installment of Friday Facts includes this little nibblet:

The “Photon Torpedo Pranksters” make an annual one-night event of painting Star Trek uniforms on statues around the city (don’t worry, the Pranksters make sure to use washable paint). This year, targets included painting the statue of Pinnochio at Mabel Tripp Gardens’ Wonderland Walk to resemble Enterprise engineer Geordi LaForge, tinting the fiberglass cow outside of City Hall in the colors of an original series medical officer, and - as usual - the bronze statue of President William Taft in Mabel Tripp Gardens painted to resemble James T.Kirk’s Starfleet Academy tormentor, Finnegan.

Man. That's an AWESOME idea.

When they did the cows in TO, Toronto Trek should have bought one and painted it like Kirk.

The one thing I saw there that really got to me? M. leSteak, the restaurant mascot (http://thecitydesk.net/2007/04/04/what-a-character-monsieur-lesteak/). This sort of thing is absolutely prime fodder for The Age of Persuasion (http://www.cbc.ca/programguide/program/index.jsp?program=O%92Reilly+and+the+Age+of+Persuasion), even if it is only a work of fiction.
