Just realized something when talking to [livejournal.com profile] pyat aboot something.

The Bitter Guide, as a concept, is now 10 years old. It was a decade ago that YHB, while taking programming at Humber, took a trip to Ottawa to see the various assembled folks.

Aside: I wonder, occasionally, how they're doing. How is Pat Hadley? His ex, Robin? Mike and Debbie Fournier? That big gay guy who played the Ventrue Antitribu? Mike? Troy and Shannon? The two Daves who ran OBN, and the players? I like to think they're all doing awesome; hope so, in fact.

Anyway, yes, I visited TO and dropped a line to Gary, who was at the time the EiC/publisher of CANSFRG, the Canadian Science Fiction Resource Guide, a mantle he'd taken over from Pau Neumann, another guy I'm curious as to the status of. Gary, in a search for content, wanted everyone in our writing group (the Can*SF Imagineers) to submit a list of books for something or other.

My reply? "Sure. I'll put together 'The Bitter Guide to Science Fiction'". And I did it again. And again. And again. Sandy on RPG.net asked me if I'd like to do it for that site, as well. Sure! That was fun, because I had a forum and could tell people to shut the hell up. Who was that one asshole? Old school douchebag, was a real dick on USENET too. I can't remember his name. Darnit.

Of course, TBG got feedback from the CANSFRG, including one guy who misread a joke to think I was homophobic, when in fact I was making fun of Heinlein.

You had to be there. When I explained it, the guy was once again a fan. Yay! I think he was the guy who first referred to me as 'witty and trenchant', which is the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me.

Eventually, I discovered LJ, got a code from [livejournal.com profile] pyat, and here I is.

Feh. Ten years of building this little brand. My back hurts.

That reminds me: I started teaching at Humber while you were there. I'm pretty certain you were never in any of my classes though (mostly project management).
