I have news, and I have bad news. FIrst off, Marvel is going to Halo comic book series. That's the news. Now, while Halo is ten kinds of awesome as a game, it doesn't really interest me as a comic book. Especially in light of this little bit of news:
naming Brian Bendis and Alex Maleev as the surprise creative team on the new series.

Okay, yeah. I'm not really physically capable of reading Bendis' Spider-Man, where a quippy light hearted hero is appropriate. I find his Avengers to be my green kryptonite. But Halo? An SF war story? I can't really see it working.

I can't wait for the twelfth issue, when Master Chief picks up a gun.

Bendis? Honestly, it depends. The real problem is he's more than capable of doing character development, and more than capable of writing decent action. He often seems unwilling to do both in the same issue. I suspect if he were writing back when each issue was generally a self-contained story, I'd have unrestrained manlove for the guy.

Once again, we're diametrically opposed. I was thinking, "Meh", until I found out it was Bendis and Maleev, and now I'm interested to the point of picking it up in trade... 8)

(But then I have a fondness for Ringworld settings... 8))

Hahahaha!

(a) I don't mind Bendis, in fact I rather like the stuff of his that I have read (Powers, Alias, Daredevil)

(b) I am not a mindless Bendis fanboy, buying all the stuff he writes, so I guess that leaves me relatively safe from over-exposure

(c) I like Maleev's art, even if it's most significant component is (or appears to be) a photocopier

(d) I have zero exposure to Daredevil outside of Bendis, and it was really only the combination of his dialog and Maleev's art that led me to read DD anyway

(e) I really wish it were Mitch Gaydos instead of Maleev

I thought "I love Halo, but I don't read media tie-ins... whoa, Bendis and Maleev! Rock!"

Bendis is variable, but when he's on he's on, and Maleev is terrific. Their Daredevil is what got me interested in Marvel in the first place.

So yeah, I'll be getting the trade.

I like Bendis, but is Marvel just going to have him write everything?

Although a Giffen/DeMatteis-written Red Vs. Blue would catch my interest ...

They were, but he couldn't keep up with the workload, so Mark Millar's taking half.
