So a bunch of you have been pimping www.paperbackswap.com. I'm thinking "I have loads of books I need to get out of my house, why don't I take advantage of it?"

And now, I learned why. Apparently it's only available to citizens of the Holy Republic. Dammit. Life just ain't fair.

True, but BookCrossing is international.

There are a lot of other programs like that one that aren't strictly American...

BookMooch is supposedly like Paperback Swap, but it's global.

I've never done it, myself. I'm possessive of anything good, and we culled a couple of carloads of books for the Northern Ontario school book drive, so there's not much I'd willingly send out. For everything else, I use the library, and if I can't get it there I buy it (used, new, eBay).

We could always start up our own - how do you and Snra Bitter feel about trashy romances? ;)

Also, I'm now going to start referring to the US as the Holy Republic
