News from [livejournal.com profile] dewline seems to indicate that C-Ace, the comics and anthro show in Ottawa, is not long for this world.

I know the difficulties inherent in conrunning, and can empathize with the situation they've found themselves in. Convention space is a cruel mistress, and prices have been all over the place in the last few years. Hotels are kinda crazy, too. I wonder if C-Ace had a sliding scale with the hotel (of course, I wondered the same thing about BE, since they had to have sold out their block). With full blocks (which was a bit of an impossible dream at some times) you can get good deals from the hotels.

Blood Ties trailer!

Hmmm. Dreseden Files, set in Chicago, filmed in Toronto. Blood TIes, set in Toronto, Filmved in Vancouver. They need to set a show in Vancouver and film it in Chicago for symmetry. Can three things have symmetry?

Yes, of course they can. It's just not bilateral symmetry. Caltrops, for example, are symetrical, but not bilaterally. :)

Damn, beat me to it.

Yes indeed, there are more kinds of symmetry than the mirror symmetry to which we are accustomed. There's also rotational symmetry and inversion symmetry. (Then you get into crystals and repetition and it all goes crazy-like.)

Not to forget radial symmetry, of course. Unless rotational symmetry is just another word for the same thing.

Yep, same thing. It may be a biologists-vs.-chemists thing. ;)

And it needs to be a show about a supernatural detective working with the cops.

If there is, I've never seen it.

Renting space can lead to some major issues - it seems like the only comic conventions still standing are the huge ones in CA. I'm worried that they'll pull the one out that they hold in Texas every year in Plano due to prices.

Here in Los Angeles they seem to be going strong, but we'll see what the future holds.

Then, I haven't attended a con since 1999, and have no particular plan to ever attend another.

Well, they already did the backward symmetry: Special Unit 2 was set in Chicago, and filmed in Vancouver.

I heard from someone in the business that Dresden Files will most probably move to Chicago. What will THAT do to the symmetry?

I'm hoping Blood Ties is all kinds of wonderful for Tanya's sake (and ours).

Symmetry?

This is the international TV drama trade. We don't need no stinkin' symmetry!

You raised some interesting points about hotel and convention centre behaviour and market situations...?

Is this the one that is based upon Tanya Huff's books? As in the Blood series whose main character is Victoria Nelson?

1. Blood Price (1991)
2. Blood Trail (1992)
3. Blood Lines (1992)
4. Blood Pact (1993)
5. Blood Debt (1997)

ttyl

Ummmm, Lifetime?
