Is it just me, or am I the only one who doesn't really like Evanescence?

I mean, Amy Lee can kind of hit the notes, and she's got lovely lady lumps, but otherwise... I got nuttin.

It's not just you. Aside from the female lead vocalist, they're pretty much exactly the same as 95% of top 40 rock bands.

Turn on a top 40 "alternative" rock station and listen to 4 songs. That's pretty much all you need to know.

They sound kind of pretty. Don't really do a lot for me. I kinda like that Wake me Up one.

Got me at the wrong moment to ask . . . at this moment, Elvis is ripping the shit out of "Suspicious Minds" on my CD, and anything recorded after about 1995 that says it is rock must get down on its knees, bow down, and make way.

I'm not really big on them, either. She sounds really whiny and if I'm in the wrong mood, it's like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I don't like Evanescence and I don't know anyone who does.

They're ok but I prefer Lacuna Coil.

I agree, I prefer Lacuna Coil as well... I saw them at the Kool Haus a few years back...

I don't dislike Evanescence per se (I've seen them live, and she sounded phenomenal, but proved how much of a ditz she is), but I'm not charging to HMV to pick up their albums either.

Sorry, both Ian and I like em :) It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's nice background music.

hah. You said it -- all their songs sound the same. You can listen to an entire album without getting distracted by any truly great bits. ;-)

but now there's help

Hiho,

Hit and miss. I like 2 of their songs, loathe others.

Andrew

They seem like fairly standard Emo-ish rock with few surprises, but Amy Lee does have a decent voice and good delivery (although in this day and age, one wonders how much processing has been done on her recorded vocal tracks), and I hear that she has good rapport with crowds in concerts.

I look in my music collection and I just can't seem to find a reason to include 'em, despite the fact that they have a few hummable tunes.

I hate the band with a passion. I call it goth light. It's like they are dark and angry, but it's really just crappy pop music.

I like them in that if they come on the radio (on the rare occasions I listen to it) I won't turn it off, and I'll actually sing along with them and stuff, but I'm not all-fired up about them. I downloadedacquired their first big album and haven't bothered to listen to anything else by them.

They might be good live, and Amy Lee has a powerful voice, but otherwise? Power rock.

They remind me of 80's power rock, and hence my adolescence, so I like all their song. Do they have more than just the one though?

Dull, dull, dull.

Also, the whole vaguely Christian thing they and some other bands in that genre pull gets on my nerves. Nothing against Christianity, but it gets annoying when someone presents passages in their lyrics that seem blatantly religious and they get coy about it. At least Creed had the decency to stand up and admit that Scott Stapp thought he was Jesus.

It's steam. Neither Ms. Lee nor her current or former 'mates in the band can hold a candle to Yoko Kanno.

No, you're not. I think whiny goth poetry and shitty arena rock go together like a shit and uranium sandwich.

I wasn't stating that all arena rock was shitty, there's plenty of good arena rock. I'm just saying Evanescence does not perform arena rock WELL.
