Since something isn't really old school until it has its own LJ community, I've started a community for Al Qadim, the Arabian Adventures setting for AD&D. Titled, appropriately enough, [livejournal.com profile] al_qadim, it's for discussion and reminiscing.

There was a fun pc game based in that world whose name escapes me.

I do have a copy of it laying around somewhere that I got as part of an AD&D collection. It also had the Ravenloft 3D games, Eye of the Beholder series and... err... some other games, I think. I'm at work so don't have it with me. The Al Qadim one was more of a Zelda-like action game, IIRC, and had little in common with the AD&D rules, but was a lot of fun regardless.

Ah, yes, Al-Qadim, one of many campaign settings I own but have never actually used.

Planescape and Spelljammer had that effect on many players as well.

I played in both, but I read much more than I played.

Planescape's my favorite campaign setting of all time. I've actually managed to play it (well... actually, I managed to _run_ it, never really got to just be a player in it), but even before that, just reading it made it my favorite. Spelljammer was just kinda interesting to read but I never got too attached to it and again never got around to playing.

Lessee... Ravenloft I enjoyed but I don't think I ever played (except in a couple online bbs games). Hollow World was kinda intriguing, but IIRC it was basic D&D rather than 2nd edition which made it too much of a chore.

I did get to play in Planescape. Fun setting, even with players horribly butchering the lingo (or is that "especially with..."?). Also played quite a bit of spelljammer. That rocked. Ravenloft ditto. All were far more fun for me than the 'Realms.

We'll have to do a get-together soon, so I can get the GenCon copy you found for me from you!

Alas, I'm on call today...

(cautious) I think so. We were (sorta?) invited, though without engraved invitations...

Perhaps I could bring along something else I've been meaning to get you after looking at your recent wish-list, and we could do a prisoner exchange of RPG-ish items?
