Home from ACB. Driving down the 401 always reminds me why I don't go down more often. Would have liked to have seen more people in K-Town (sorry I missed the Christmas eve party & pursuant radio show party, K&S. Glad it went well in any case).

We stopped at Chapters to pickup some stuff. I got World Wrestling Insanity, another ECW Press wrestling book. I was hesitant the first time I looked at it, because it had strange photoshopping and was written in a bit too familiar a style, but I figured, fuck it, it isn't by Scott Keith. It's okay so far, but the overly familiar style is grating. And I don't need a book to tell me that Vinnie Mack & Hunter are messing up the corporation.

I just want to know why I can't find a good general interest wrestling community. I mean, if [livejournal.com profile] pyat can have [livejournal.com profile] wwefurs, why can't I find a good normal wrestling comm? I just want to be able to ask if Keith's new book continues the trend of the last two.

I also got Benbella's Amazing Race book. Not yet read, but judging by their other stuff, I have faith.

Home, and relaxed, in any case. Much thanks to those of you who offered Christmas greetings, and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hico for the pile o' gifts.

Good. Normal. Wrestling comm.

Choose any 2, and only 2, from the above listing.

Quick, take WWI back to Chapters and exchange it for <a href="http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/item/books-978097367198/097367198X/Pain+and+Passion+The+History+of+Stampede+Wrestling>this</a>.

Pain and Passion is absolutely worth it. I enjoyed Wrestling at the Chase (http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/item/books-978155022684/1550226843/Wrestling+at+the+Chase+The+Inside+Story+of+Sam+Muchnick+and+?ref=Search+Books%3a+'wrestling+at+the+chase'&sterm=wrestling+at+the+chase+-+Books), as well, but for most Canadian fans Pain and Passion will probably be more interesting.

You know when Cena is finally treated like the midcarder he is, I may just start watching wrestling again. For now I will stick ot my videos of the classic era of the NWA.

I know, I know it is all the rage to bash wrestling these days, but seriously... other than the X-Division in TNA, what on air easily accessible wrestling is worth watching these days?

That said bought myself a PS2 for $80 at WalMart and busted out the Smackdown:Here Comes the Pain and memory card :) Man that is some fun stuff :)

Smackdown: It isn't perfect, and it has an odd mix of more kid-friendly stuff and more serious wrestling, but with Regal, Dave Taylor, Bryan Kendrick, Paul London, Benoit, and Finlay, there's a core of damned solid guys on the roster, and if they'd let some of the underutilized guys -- such as Jamie Knoble -- work a bit more the show would be even better. Since it's taped on Tuesday, it's easy enough to read the spoilers to see if it's going to be worth watching that week.

Depending on your cable plan, you might be able to get lucha -- probably CMLL -- although I'm not really sure what the shows are like currently, and lucha is, well, not exactly the NWA of 1985.

TNA PPVs are generally pretty good, even when the TV product is bad. Best to read some reviews and buy the replays.

I spend about $20-30 bucks a month buying DVDs -- generally Ring of Honor stuff -- which is far less than the cost of buying even one PPV a month. And, of course, dodgy japanese bootlegs are only a couple bucks a DVD.

The state of wrestling on free/cable TV is not good, but the overall state of wrestling is not near as bad as many make it out to be.

Hey maybe you can help me. I am looking for the Bigg Egg Universe show from Japan on DVD (my VHS copy, over 10 years old, finally bought the farm). It is a many hours women's wrestling show and is very very good ... some of the best (and comparatively some of the worst) wrestling ever.

You seem to indicate you know a thing or two about dodgy Japanese bootlegs ;)

IVP has a ton of stuff, and they have a 10 discs for $22.50 sale going on until Jan 1st. I almost wish I hadn't noticed that ... ;-)

Fuck yeah. I watch hours of *good* wrestling every week [and could watch more if I had more time/money], so I'll be damned if I'm going to listen to wrestling fans go "there's no good wrestling available!" without pointing out some goddamned good wrestling.

Very very cool sir.

So you trust these guys? Have you bought from them before?

Yes, they're reputable.

I'd also recommend http://www.puroresudvdsource.com/ -- but they seem to be having some domain troubles right now, so their site is kind of flaky for me at the moment.
