I told you I wouldn't forget.

Took Supercar in for maintenance, took myself in for a blood test, lunch with [livejournal.com profile] pyat, Thursday game, and all is good.

And now we take you to the Pinedale Shopping Mall.

Yes, one of the classics. It still leaves me in stitches.

That episode of WKRP is one of the best tv episodes ever. "As God is my witness,i thought turkeys could fly." God, I wish they would put WKRP on dvd.

I had heard (but it might be an urban myth) that WKRP will likely never see release on DVD because of all the rights to songs played on the show that would need to be secured.

I also wonder whether it would be anti-climactic: do we have a warm and rosey nostalgic feeling about WKPR that hasn't been dispelled because of the fact that we don't see it in re-runs or on DVD, and so we don't remember all the bad bits, just the good bits?

I've heard that too.

For me personally, WKRP was one of my favorite shows. The turkey episode was just one of the good ones. There was the cocaine one and the one with the Who concert tragedy plus many others. It was just a great cast of characters. Plus both theme songs, beginning and end credits, were great.

Some writers I read were posting about this as one of the funniest scenes ever. It has never failed to make my cry and laugh my head off.

"TURKEYS ARE HITTING THE PAVEMENT LIKE SACKS OF WET CEMENT!!!"

If you think about it though, 90% of the scene is carried by Les (Richard Sanders) - I mean obviously Gordon Jump delivers the coup d'grace ("God as my witness...") and there's some pretty good writing going on - but other than that, basically there's just a jumble of actors doing reaction shots and Richard Sanders in an overcoat, describing something happening off camera. If you're like me, you remember the image of the Turkeys hitting the pavement, but all you ever saw was Richard Sanders looking over the camera man's shoulder - and yet it's one of the funniest things ever.

Richard Sanders was a goddamned genius!

He was. Richard Sanders was the best thing about WKRP. Next to Gary Sandy's ass.

What?

As God Is My Witness...

I wish I had remembered this before you did.

One of the few things from 20 years ago that can still make me laugh my sorry ass off.

Les' coverage just kills me.
