The "Gamer Geek film"? I mean, sure, nobody outside the hobby will have heard of them, but this is about the fourth or fifth, right?

Plus some cheezy Australian documentary I saw in BMW last night (The Phandom Menace) and it's becoming evident we have to work hard on keeping cameras out of the hands of geeks. Very, very hard.

Anyway, it appears that now The Scots have gotten into it with Gamerz, the movie.

Apparently it showed here in the T.Dot a couple weeks ago. I admit, I haven't seen any of them, so I shouldn't judge, but what fun would that be? I don't know how good Gamerz or any of the other films are. It's possible they'll be semi decent comedies or dramas about members of the hobby. I'm willing to bet it's even more likely they'll be the same kind of narcissism that leads people to say how their life would be a great source for a sitcom.

Feh. I need to go eat breakfast.

In documentaries alone, there are at least four I can think of ("Trekkies", "Ringers", "Warzoids", "Darkon") and in fiction film there's the "Gamers" guys (up to something like four films now), "Free Enterprise" (which features William Fucking Shatner and is pretty brilliant even now), and the upcoming "Fanboys."

...You're right. We need to stop them before they kill again.

"Free Enterprise" is one of the first and certainly still the best. I just love the moment when he sees his ex:

"Oh, you're the Trekkie, right?"

*beat*

"Fuck you both."

It's a documentary about Star Wars fans, and how they've taken the Assclown Title away from even the hardest-core Trekkies (not intentionally, but I have to say, I've met hardcore cosplayers who view Warsies with extreme distaste...and that's saying something!)

Should be available in most rental shops and fine online retailers. Probably you'll have more luck online, I think Film Threat was involved with that one and they're not the greatest distributors in the world.
