Do I really need to cut this stuff?

Okay, so, Benry has a tumor on his spine. He found out about this the day before Oceanic 815 crashed.

What is one of the effects that we have noticed on the island? What does it do to people? It makes them whole. Locke could walk, Rose's disease was cured.

But Benry, who says he's lived on the island his entire life, is going to die of a spinal tumor.

Why? Is there something about him, something different caused by being on the island? Is the tumor a fake, to get Jack to operate on something else?

Could be. Maybe the island has life extending effects; they've got long lifespans, but the human body can only handle so much of that sort of extension.
