Ah, man. I knew it.

Just like I said, you see sirens in the rearview mirror, it's game OVAH. Admittedly, Ecko's demise was even less pleasent than Shannon's, but quicker than Boone's.

Apparently, the guy who plays Ecko was a bit of a dick on set, so apparently it'll be no love lost.

The flashbacks were interesting. I guess not everyone on the show is seeking redemption; Ecko was definitely just trying to justify his actions, and in the end he was happy to justify himself as a monster who only let himself get sidetracked a little by guilt. Way to go, Ecko! If they choose to go forward with the Enkidu/Gilgamesh parallels, we can look forward to Locke now questioning his mortality, and trying to go beyond it.

At this point, of course, it is also possible that there's another Security System on the island, because of Locke & Ecko's wildly divergent descriptions of their encounters.

Good to see Lostzilla this week. It got a lot of screen time, mostly like a ghost in a horror movie, sneaking about in the background.

Man, that TVGuide.com Ask Ausiello column is addictive.

Would you mind linking me to the whole disempowerment thing discussion? Or giving me a quick run down?

It's not link-worthy. :)

Basically, the first couple episodes this season have featured disempowerment. Got a boat? We're smarter than you, so we took it. Got a plan? We're smarter than you, we foiled it. Got an escape attempt? We already thought of that. Think you're a good con-man? We're better than you.

Part of that is due, no doubt, to the Captured! storyline. What is being imprisoned other than disempowerment?

"But the writers are showing how Jack, Kate, and Sawyer are being broken," one may claim. Granted, but with my plebian tastes, they're running a very real chance of breaking my interest in a show I have otherwise followed slavishly for two years.

In an RPG sense (because as inveterate gamer, it's all about gaming to me) it would have driven me nuts as a player, with the GM saying "Nope, the Others thought of that, they stop you," all along the way.

Doug.
