Man. This is an... interesting commercial parody of the Apple vs Windows commercials for the Wii vs P3.

It's a bit... It's a bit. Really, if it weren't for the fact I think thetathx1138 will find it interesting ("Blu-Ray! IT's the way of the future!") I might not have linked to it.

I don't know what the POV of the originating producer is. I don't get G4, so I don't know if it's a joke or some sort of structures satire/parody; that is, it parodies the Mac/Windows ads, but is it attempting to point out some deeper social issue? Or is it just a joke at the expense of fat chicks/Playstation 3 owners?

That last sentence was only there to keep nottheterritory from getting angry at me.

Of course, the problem is it then makes Nintendo look like total idiots. Most viral marketing ideas at least make the product look good.

It was shown as part of "Attack of the Show" and they do satirical spoof commercials often, so I am pretty sure this is not "real"

I still want a wii. As much as this is a spoof, there is some truth to this commercial.

Not really. Different chicks appeal to different guys. The Wii (the machine, not the commercial avatar) looks like a sexy machine.

You're reading way too much into it. It's a silly parody with some cheap laughs; G4 (and especially AotS) is not remotely that deep to come up with anything introspective and subtle as what you're wondering.

G4 is 99.999999% shite. AotS used to be a wonderful show years ago when it was called The Screen Savers and had actual hosts who, um, not only knew what they were talking about, but could also talk without putting anyone with a brain to sleep. G4 managed to piss off/alienate every decent host they ever had for that show - including ones that moved to LA to stay with the show when G4 merged with Tech TV.

Heh, as usual, G4 proves that there's no way in hell a network can keep up with the Internet; this video has been all over the 'Net for MONTHS. There's also somewhere a "switch" parody featuring PS2 users deciding they don't want to be raped for $600.

Personally, I think the really Apple/Wii spoof that needs to be done should feature the Metal Men; Iron as the PS3 and Platinum as the Wii.

Well, the clip's a month old, but either way...you have to wonder why G4, which is perpetually in the red and is constantly the butt of jokes in the community it's supposed to cater to, is still on the air.

As for Iron and Lead, from what I've read you've got a point. It'd be funny if, in the constant effort to one-up Marvel, DC was the first comic company to have a series featuring a gay robot couple. Me, I'm wondering if there wasn't ever a night where Will Magnus, missing his fiance, had a little too much to drink and discovered the joys of going Platinum.

I presume that it's cheap enough to produce that it beats putting anything else in the slot. I mean, I can't really see how a cheesy chat show could lost money. You need two monkeys in front of the camera and a studio.

Hell, if Tommy Tallarico is still taking up broadcast bandwidth, there's no justice in the world anyway.

I think the Magnus/Platinum relationship is best served by her constant infatuation being offput only by his complete disgust at the mere thought.

You'd be surprised. Apparently G4 finally IS imploding, and not a moment too soon. Still, you have to wonder what marketing exec thought a VIDEO GAME channel was a great idea. Because gamers watch TV when?

I just assume that digital channels have much lower targets to reach for profit. I mean, there's a channel up here that consists solely of crappy web videos. It's like someone saw a crappy website and thought "this would be great on TV!"

Take 'low goals' and "hey, video games are a billion dollar industry" and it must have made sense to someone.

That channel sounds more like "shit, we've got a blank channel; quick, find some filler!" If G4 was just crappy web videos and reruns of "The Wizard" it'd make more sense.
