[livejournal.com profile] khaosworks posted this gem of a story earlier today. A British POW during WW II ordered a Rolex while in a prison camp. This post has pictures and the documents from the transaction, including a letter from Rolex telling him he Must Not Think of settling his account until after the war and the receipts for his payment sent via Lloyds.

An interesting series of documents from another place and time.

Wow, that is absolutely marvelous.

I am also surprised that the Nazis allowed POWs to recieve packages. Things have definitely changed wrt war and treatment of prisoners of late - if Nazi POW camps start looking good in comparison to those today, you know we are living in a seriously messed up era.

Even the NAZIs followed the Geneva Conventions for the treatment of prisoners of war.

I tell you, statements like that make me "proud to be an American" (sigh).
