Jun. 16th, 2006 11:25 amSo, in a fit of nostalgia, I decided "I'd like a copy of Harlan Ellison's Watching*". I do a quick web search, and find a UK bookseller that lists the book, and links to Abe books. Check out the Canadian booksellers listed. Apparently, the cheapest version is $39, because it's signed n' stuff. In fact, all the ones listed in the country are for signed copies or first edition hardcovers. I might go to Seeker's and see if I can get that one. Maybe.
The states has a few copies of normal editions for cheaper, which would be what I remember reading way back when, for significantly cheaper. But now I've got an itch for the book. Maybe when I get home and past the company's molasses-wall, I can see if Amazon or Chapters have any copies in stock. I'm willing to bet no, of course. Ellison, while an amusing read, is one of those guys without easy to find backstock. If only the White Wolf thing hadn't exploded all those years ago.
Heh. When the bookstore Dangerous visions changed its name to Readsf.com, it apparently did a search and replace on its database. One unfortunate victim was the Dangersous Visions book, which is now titled "readsf.com".
*aka Harlan Ellison's Bitching, if you were there to see that thing.

Date: 2006-06-16 03:33 pm (UTC)I remember some of the AD&D 2nd edition books, the magical item compendium ones, occasionally said that a particular item does 'XdX points of dawizard'. That was the source of many jokes for a while.
