Help Me! WTF is Larry the Cable Guy?

Okay, so, there's this movie called, well, Larry the Cable Guy. I'm pretty sure I missed out on his rise to fame entirely, so could someone explain his shtick to me. What IS his shtick? Just a guy who installs cable? "Hey, I've got exposed butt-crack and will show up at random despite the fact we had an appointment!"

Seriously, I'm stymied. H'ep me!

He's one of the comics on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, he's a misogynistic bigoted idiot, and he's one of the most popular comedians in the country right now. His schtick is basically being twice as redneck as the worst redneck you've ever seen.

The weirdest part about the movie though, is it's called Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector.

The best part, of course, is that Dan Whitney (Mr. Cableguy's real name, Larry being a character he created) was born and raised in Nebraska, went to private school, and didn't move to the south (Florida) until he was sixteen.

So, basically, he's a guy who's smart enough to exploit the same audience of spam-sucking trailer trash that Karl Rove counts on to vote against their own best interests.

He is the Ernest P. Worrel of this decade, without the intelligence. He is a standup comic, albeit he doesn't quite stand all the way up, his knuckles kind of drag on the ground.

He says "Git-r-done!" a lot, and drunk idiots in trailers laugh. America has many, many drunk idiots in trailers.

That catchphrase has come up a couple times. What's it supposed to stand for? "Get her done"? "Guitars done!" I'm stymied.

So pretty much a one-note wonder being pulled out into a feature length film?

How does he compare to the Trailer Park Boys?

Get her done. Do something. Like, "If we're going to bomb Saddam, let's use nucular weapons! GIT R DONE!!" (huge laughs, wild applause)

He compares to the trailer park boys in that the trailer park boys are meant to be pathetic figures, laughed at, while Larry the Cable Guy is the kind of thing the trailer park boys themselves would watch and enjoy, if they lived in Tennessee and not Nova Scotia. :)

As far as I can tell, he goes onto stage, acts like an asshole for roughly half an hour and leaves. He might have a redneck thing going on, I'm not sure, about two minutes in I was begging for the sweet release of death.

Sadly, I have to admit that, living in the Orlando radio market, have heard of him long before he got any national exposure. While I enjoy redneck humour on rare occasion, after fifteen minutes or so, it gets really old.

"The Cable Guy" bit doesn't really have much involvement in his shtick any more. Back in the day (when he was part of WJRR's morning/afternoon shows) it was under the pretense of a cable guy, and he would supposedly be calling from people's houses that he was currently in, under the auspices of fixing their cable woes or installing cable in their house/office/building/whatever... and then he'd either do a diatribe or answer questions from the DJs or callers.

Really, rather not terribly funny. But, then, I'm hardly a fan of radio shows that do anything but play music.

Ouch... Damn.
