That kinda sucks
Feb. 19th, 2006 02:54 amAccording to this image from Scans Daily, Alpha flight are now deaders.
So, if anyone's going to Ad Astra, we should hold some kind of wake.
Damn, that just sucks.

That could be anyone from the Fantastic Four to Willy Lumpkin.

Date: 2006-02-20 01:57 am (UTC)He didn't confirm it was Sue who dies tho. They've *fibbed* in their solicitations before.
Remember, also, that the issue is packed with a reprint of the John Byrne Sue-miscarries-the-Negative-Zone-baby issue too.
Just remember that Sue isn't dead til we see her buried, and then its dubious.
(and hey - no problem with the FF Radio Show joy - Episode Two is up this week and there are 11 more where they came from. Things get decidedly weird when Ant Man shows up near the end...)
Ok, here's the thing... (not The Thing, but still, the thing...)
Date: 2006-02-20 02:31 am (UTC)The solicitation refers to the fact that issue #245 is included in the DEATH IN THE FAMILY one-shot, and Quesada mentions that not one but two FF Family members die in the story, in contenuity. Here's where I humbly remind folks that in that story Franklin's powers went coo-coo-kaka and he artificially aged himself then started going berserk. The funny thing about Franklin's powers is that they play with reality. I think far too many people seem to think that the one-shot that's coming out is set *recently* when it's pretty clearly a sequel to a comic that came out 25 years ago (or they wouldn't be including it in the issue, right?). The other funny thing is that Franklin can completely make-it-never-happened (to borrow a Claremont expression - not something I'm not ever really wont to do), and if he did at that point, current Sue will still be alive, and it will still be "in continuity" because it "happened 5 years ago" in Marvel Time.
Not a "What If", not a hoax, not an Imaginary Story - just an extrapolation of a great Byrne story from 25 years ago - something that the one-shot's writer, Karl Kesel has done before, I might add, to great success (does anyone else remember that EXCELLENT FF annual by Kesel and Immonnen that had the Thing shot into the parallel dimension that aged in our chronology and everyone in the FF was in their 80's - the Friday Night Poker Game between the characters who don't age was amazing).
Outrage is a relative thing, I've found...
Date: 2006-02-19 08:16 pm (UTC)Meanwhile over at DC, in the space of three weeks, two different women characters had their heads PUNCHED OFF OF THEIR SHOULDERS, on panel. To me, perhaps not to anyone else, this speaks to a peculiar kind of mysogeny showing up in their books this month.
We don't know the Alpha's are dead. We DO know that Pathera and Mongul's sister are VERY dead, because we had three comics in 4 week shoing us just how VERY dead they are. This is why I might not need to read any DC Comics for a while.
Oh wait - I work in a comic shop - I *have* to read them.
Great :/

I turn away from thee comics, for thou hast forsaken me! :P

Date: 2006-02-19 08:10 pm (UTC)Relax. We don't know they're dead.
Many of them may have survived.
Besides, how many times have the individual members of ALPHA FLIGHT seemingly come back from the dead? (I'm looking at YOU, Guardian...)
Quesada has already said they have HUGE plans ahead for Alpha.

The thing I love about the large number of fans at <lj user="scans_daily">...
Date: 2006-02-19 08:27 pm (UTC)...is that no matter how many times those folks posture, and sneer, and bitch, and make fun of Marvel for saying hype-ey things like "The Internet will break in half..." or "You weren't expecting THIS, folks..." as soon as one of those things that Marvel has hyped comes up, they then proceed to either ACT like the Internet is breaking in half (like at the link you posted) or actually break sites for a while while they posture, and sneer, and bitch, and act like their hair's on fire (anyone who tried to log into NEWSARAMA the week that it was announced that Mark Waid was fired off of the Fantastic Four three years ago will know this is true.
It's like the fans are saying "GOD, I HATE FIRE... I'd HATE it if anything caught on FIRE..." while they're passing the folks at the company a box of old wood household matches, a can of gasoline, some kindling, and a flamable booklet titled "THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO... Starting Fires Quickly".
Meanwhile, over at their DECAPITATING COMPETITION, people are waving their arms saying "Look!!! WE killed people!!! That's like Fire!! You HATE fire!!!"
