The folks at Rogers are always looking for a new way to get just a little more cash out of your pocket.

Last year, it was a text message trivia game that would allow you to earn stuff, like passes to concerts & things. This year they've gotten much more clever. It's now an interactive spy game where you receive a choose your own adventure game via text message. You get three choices (Do you put out the molotov cocktail with A) a blanket, B) a wet blanket, or C) your hands), and if you choose poorly, game over.

This gives the subscribers (you have to opt in) a fun little game, and gives Rogers a few dozen extra text messages per subscriber each month.

It's making me wonder if [livejournal.com profile] robin_d_laws could take his Angels & Operators game onto a larger scale. This game is different from his in that it's on a much smaller scale than A&O. A&O goes through several 'steps' before you get to the choice for the session, then gives you a divergent number of tasks you can perform, and the cell phone games give you different methods for handing a specific task, like handling things on a strategic level (how do you take care of the tank ) vs a tactical level (how do you take the pass). Unless I got those two mixed up again.

Anyway, yeah, it's just interesting how the games are set up.

I just had a flashback to the days I would say (little miss perky) "Thank you for choosing Rogers, you've reached Emily! How can I help you today?", and this voice on the other end of the line would say, with all the venom it could muster, "You people at Rogers... overcharged me/are morons/are crooks/suck".

Like it was my fault they didn't bother reading the whole bill, just the big number. (Yes, pay-per-views cost money! Every time you view them! No, sir, I don't believe your two year-old accidentally ordered porn. It takes a total of eighteen buttons pressed in sequence. And they 'accidentally ordered' the sequel the next week.)

Er... off-topic!

The game itself sounds kind of fun. Is the answer "a blanket"?

I have obviously forgotten when the combusible agent in a Molotov cocktail is. I think my brain was going along the lines of "don't use water to put out a grease fire"... and a cocktail does not involve grease.
