Dec. 6th, 2005 11:57 amWell, it's a morning for media geekery. Was pleasently surprised by an Arrested Development/Kitchen Confidential double bill. I guess now that Sweeps is over, Fox will resume showing the good stuff. AD was a good resolution to the whole MRF storyline, as tasteful as it could be done on the show. It allowed Michael a graceful exit, and the Bluth family to exhibit their full sliminess.
They actually referred back to the silver medallist bit ("Oh, I get that now"). Dave Thomas was hilarious, for what little he had to do (the cricket magazine/spanking magazine bit was funny). It looks like Super Dave, Charlize Theron & Dave Thomas are all finished their guest spots with this episode. Heh. Funny. "Is that part of your trick?" "No, Michael, that's no trick. It's an EEEEEEEllUUUUUsion."
Kitchen Confidential was also funny, with John Cho appearing as "the cook with the huge hair". Seriously, they make the dishwasher wear a hairnet, but not The Korean Michael Bolton?
The restaurant gets into a feud with the French restaurant next door, and wacky hijinks ensue. It wasn't quite as good as the lead in (but then again, few things are as good as AD), but was still funny. The evil subterranean baker was hilarious ("Don't scream!" "Aaaaaagh!"), and the nightvision scene with Nick Brendan made me poop my pants, it was so funny, with the baguette poking and the yelling and the Laaaaaady. Overall, the absurdity of the situations isn't quite as strong as on AD, but the
Damn, I'm gonna miss those shows.
WRT X3: Since I can't watch the teaser (my PC is 98, and Cynra's iMac is slightly older), I'm frustrated, but all I can think about is "This guy fucked up a Jackie Chan movie. What's he gonna do to THIS?"
One still shot of the beast that looks okay (but we wanna hear his VOICE, dammit! Kelsey G. is the second best choice they coulda made, IMHO).
For those who've seen it: does the shot in the rugged PA warzone type thing look Days of Future Past or Interesting Danger Room simulation?

Date: 2005-12-06 05:14 pm (UTC)It doesn't look like we're getting into Future Past, but I thought I saw a sentinel, and Juggernaut looked damned sweet, and Beast In Motion was truly a sight to behold.
Okay, but to more pleasant matters, AD and KC were both pretty rockin', but I think even if it had met with goodwill, Kitchen Confidential is too meditative, dark and melancholy to really hold Fox's interest. They don't wave enough American flags, or fart enough. Arrested had so many good bank shots, though... particularly George-Michael's stunning, and unsettling, knowledge of California marriage law. It's awesome how they always manage to get Les Cousins Dangereux into the mix, and the Rita Monster moment was inspired.

AD should be produced direct to DVD by a grant by the Rockafeller foundation or something. I wonder how its DVD sales are doing?

Date: 2005-12-06 07:08 pm (UTC)The plot seems somewhat muddled. Is Magneto starting a mutant army in the woods, is it Sentinels?
I'd love to see screen caps from that trailer.
